Chapter 21

“P-Philp? What are you doing here?”

He didn't say a word. He just walked towards me and hugged me right away.

“I know what happened and why you are here. I got you. And I will do everything to get you out from this s**t!” he said with conviction.

I burst out crying after what he said. Mahigpit ko siyang niyakap. I felt a bit of relief from his tight embrace. Iniwan man ako ng lahat, pero andito siya. Kahit na sinaktan ko siya ng lubusan, andito pa rin siya para akin.

Inakay niya ako at pinaupo sa silya at tinabihan. Humarap siya sa akin at mataman akong tinitigan lalo na ang gilid ng labi ko. Nakita ko kung paano umigting ang kanyang panga at napalitan ng galit ang kaniyang mga mata.

“What happened to the side of your lips? Bakit may sugat ka?” seryosong tanong niya.

I played with my hands, pressing them tightly to stop my nervousness.

“N-Nicholai slapped me. H-he…” napapikit ako at napasinghap nang maalala ang mga kahayupang ginawa ni Nicholai.

“f**k!” Napaigtad ako sa gulat at napadilat. I saw Philip punch the table in front of us. Ngayon ko lang siyang nakitang ganoon kagalit. “Tell me everything the bastard did to you.”

I sighed and held his hands. I wanted to tell him everything without breaking down in front of me. Because I know everything that I would say to him would hurt him. Lahat masyadong mabigat para sa kaniya. At sa akin.

I told him everything from the very beginning where it was all started.

Napatingala siya at hinawakan ng mahigpit ang aking kamay. Mababakas din ang galit sa mga mata nito ng bumalik ang paningin nito sa akin.

“That f*****g bastard. He deserved what is happening to him right now. If he makes it alive, I will kill him with my own hands. Damn him!”

Biglang tumulo ang luha ko nang nababakas sa mga mata niya, ngayon ay wala na ito. Pain. It was now visible in his eyes.

“I’m sorry. Kung hindi ako sumuko agad at pinaglaban ka noon, sana… Sana hindi ito mangyayari sayo ngayon. If I am just strong and more reliable, siguro hindi mangyayari sa iyo ito. I should have known that you are just forced to be with him. I should be the one protecting you. Not the other way around. ” Nakaluhod siya sa harapan ko habang umiiyak.

“N-No… It was not your fault.” Iling ko habang humihikbi. “Ako. Kasalanan ko ang lahat. Masyado akong naging kompyansa dahil akala ko na kaibigan ko siya. Dahil sa magkababata kami. Please do not blame yourself for something that you didn’t do because it was me all along. Ako ang puno’t dulo ng problemang kinasasadlakan ko ngayon.” I wiped his tears and cupped his face. “It’s not your fault. It will never be.” We hugged each other again and tried to calm ourselves.

“You will get out of here. I promise,” he said and just nodded as a response.

Phillip requested for me to be examined when he saw the cut on my lips and the bruises on my arm. Nagmarka na pala ang ginawa ni Nicholai nang hindi ko man lang namalayan. He would use the medical records as evidence because they would file it as self-defense on my part. Naalala ko ang mga pictures na kinuha ko na binura ko dahil pinasa ko ito kay Cheni. I couldn’t use that anymore. I bet Cheni already deleted all of those pictures too.

Nagngingitngit ang loob ko sa katraydorang ginawa niya sa akin. I would make her pay when I got out of this jail. Pati ang pamilya ko at pamilya ni Nicholai ay napaikot niya. Napakasama niya.

Phillip came back looking so worried. I heard him sighed heavily, then smiled when he saw me looking at him.

“You will be escorted to the hospital to be examined. I can’t go with you. I will be meeting Atty. Kraius Montreal right now to talk about your upcoming trial. He will help me with your case. He’s good,” he assured me.

“I trust you. Ikaw ba lang ang meron ako, Phillip,” mahinang sabi ko.

He moved closer, at napapikit ako nang maramdaman ang labi niya sa noo ko. “I will always be here for you,” he said before he left.

The cops escorted me as we went to the hospital, where they would examine me. The ride didn’t take that long. When we arrived, they examined me right away. They made me take an X-ray and CT scan. They even tested my blood for possible alcohol and d**g intoxication.

After I was done with every test, we left the premises and went back to the police station. The result would be sent to the forensic and to my attorney.

If I have those pictures that I sent to Cheni, it will give us a big help. Those bruises were more brutal, especially the one on my tummy. But those bruises were already gone and not visible anymore. So the test a while ago would not see it.

Napamura ako sa isip. Damn Cheni! Damn her!

Akala ko ibabalik ba nila ako sa selda ko, pero hindi. Dinala nila ako kung saan tumatanggap ng bisita ang mga bilanggong katulad ko.

Napakunot-noo na naman ako. Bumalik na ba agad si Phillip? Napangiti ako sa isip at nakangiting pumasok sa loob. Agad na nabura ang ngiti sa labi nang makita kung sino ang naghihintay sa akin. The cops pulled me away from Cheni. She glared at me and tried to fix her hair.

“You see? She’s a psycho. She even tried to kill her husband. Now, she was trying to kill me,” sabi niya sa mga pulis.

“Sinungaling ka!” sigaw ko pabalik at akmang susugurin na naman siya ngunit hindi ko magawa dahil hawak ako ng dalawang pulis

“Remember this, Denima. You will rot in this jail. I will do everything just for you to be out of Nicholai’s life!” she said in gritted teeth and then left, banging the door hard.
