Chapter ElevenAfter nine whole days in which I thought I would explode, they finally let me out. I knew the only reason I still had a job was because of my seven years of no problems, and that it wasn’t up to Jerod to fire me. Once again, after leaving the hospital, things grew worse for me. I would call Jeff late at night after Jeremiah fell asleep. I paced outside, smoking. Jeremiah had a movie called A Turtle’s Tale, and one of the songs, “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars, reminded me of those late nights, calling Jeff and hoping for a better life. Five days after I got out of the hospital, a September Friday morning, Jeremiah was spending the night at my mom’s. Nia, Andre, and Nate were gone.
