Andy Kinder had a PhD in computer sciences from Cambridge University and was a research scientist. Until Rainier brought him in. His job – to ensure that the programmes which ran the hardware were kept in top working order.
A glitch in one area could cause a shut down or crash in another. He had a second master console at his work station which was equipped with state-of-the-art control and monitoring systems. As most of the processes were automated and self-regulating, he and his assistant had little to do.
