Kirsten thought the worst was over.
The "Shearer Thing" as Mark’s demission was known on the grapevine had become one more footnote in GI history. Things seemed to have settled down again. For her too, although she still hadn't got a real job since Mark left. It was holiday time, and she was being used by the manpower department as a stopgap.
Then came the morning when her world fell apart.
