A Dangerous Game

Nadia couldn’t help but laugh as she stared at the screen. There, staring back at her, were a pair of familiar grey eyes, framed by a face that reminded her of Kent Clark. Beneath his picture was all the information she could ever need. **Name:** Jaxon Grey **Date of Birth:** 16 June, 1997 **Place of Origin:** Blue Bay **Member of:** The Shadow Pack **Rank:** Second in command to Enzo Blackwood The last line had her chuckling harder. She had spent the entire day flirting with none other than the right-hand man of her enemy. It was almost too ridiculous. Life had a strange sense of humor, and right now, it was playing a joke on her. She scrolled down, reading more about him. Every detail about Jaxon was laid out in front of her, and the more she read, the harder she laughed. They thought they were going to find her before she figured out they were here, but one of their men had already blown their cover. Her stomach hurt from laughing so much. Nadia had suspected something was off about Jaxon from the start. He kept asking about the packs here and trying to gather information about the wolves. And, of course, the fact that he was from the north, everything seemed to fall into place. It had been easy to play along, to feed him bits of information that wouldn't matter. Now, though, she knew exactly what he was after. And while she should probably be more guarded, she found herself looking forward to seeing him again tomorrow. She wasn’t about to let this chance slip through her fingers. She wanted to keep leading him down the wrong path, to see how they'd handle the false information. It was going to be fun. Nadia closed Jaxon’s file and turned to the data she’d gathered on the Alpha brothers. She had hacked into the airport servers and knew exactly when they arrived in the city and which hotel they were staying at. It looked like the trip had been planned right after Jeremy’s death, and from that, it was clear they were searching for her. This wasn’t just a casual visit. They were serious this time. Most people would be scared. It might have terrified someone else, but not Nadia. In fact, it thrilled her. Ideas were already flooding her mind about all the ways she could play with them. It was going to be a lot of fun. She knew that the brothers had probably found out about the city from Jeremy. He’d been chasing her for a while, but he hadn’t been able to get close. That worked in her favor. Here she was, feeling like life had been getting a little too monotonous, but now, she had something to look forward to messing with the brothers. Nadia checked the details on their hotel to see how long they planned to stay and what they’d be doing. She’d hacked into the hotel security system before, so getting access to the cameras was easy for her. It was a posh hotel in the city, well-guarded, with high-profile guests. It made sense, it was her favorite place to hack. She found their floor and room number. This was too easy. She accessed the footage and found one of the brothers walking down the hall. She zoomed in to see who it was. It turned out to be Enzo, the eldest. The footage was blurry and grainy, but she could tell he was tense. Something shifted inside her as she watched him on the screen. There was just something about the way he moved, the way he carried himself, that caught her attention. She had seen pictures of the brothers before, but this was the first time she had seen one of them in action, even if it was just through the grainy footage. It was clear Enzo was a powerful wolf. You could almost feel the strength and authority that radiated from him, even from the screen. This should have made her instincts go off, should have made her back away, but instead, it only fueled her desire to mess with them more. She was getting more and more excited about the idea of playing with them. She watched as Enzo entered the lift and went down two floors before disappearing into a room. Nadia groaned, wishing there were cameras in the room, too. She could hack their phones if she wanted to, but that would spoil the fun. She liked the thrill of the chase. Where was the excitement if she already knew all their cards? For now, she’d play fair with them, but she’d have as much fun as possible before this was all over. After all, she couldn’t just get rid of them too quickly. What would she do without the challenge? The thought of getting rid of them did make her hesitate for a moment. If she ended it too soon, she’d lose all the fun. But for now, she pushed that thought aside. She had time to figure things out as she went along. She kept an eye on the footage and saw the other brother Asher enter the hotel. Again, something stirred within her as she watched him. She wasn’t sure what it was, but there was something about the brothers that triggered something deep inside her. Maybe it was just her wolf reacting to the strength of their presence. Even though she wasn’t part of any pack, her wolf still seemed to respond to that pack energy. But she hated that feeling. Neither her nor her wolf wanted anyone to tell them what to do. She would rather die than let an Alpha make decisions about her life. She liked her freedom, her independence. It was one of the reasons she stayed as far away from pack life as possible. It wasn’t for her. Pack life meant submission, a cage. Eventually, it would fall apart, just like all hierarchies did. She could either wait for it to crumble or make it crumble herself. And of course, she chose the latter.
