"Oh yes, I called her so many times while I was at work she didn't pick up. I became worried. So I tried calling her again while I was on the bus when I was coming back home from work, her friend picked up the call and said she arrived safely but was too tired she slept off immediately without getting to call us" Mrs Olivia answered, turning off the light switch.
"I was worried to be honest because Jane has never traveled such a distance alone" He replied in a less worried tone this time.
"And I think her friend is very happy with us letting her come over". Mrs Olivia added, smiling at her husband.
"You think so? I hope things work out for them" Mr James answered back in a happy tone before they drifted to sleep.
The next morning Alice woke up with a slight headache. "Ouch! She moaned from pain placing her palm on her forehead as she felt her body temperature running up a little bit.
"This must be because I was stressed up yesterday," Alice thought as she managed to sit up and climb down from the bed. Still feeling a little bit drowsy she slowly walks to the door to go check on Jane.
Opening the door and walking out of her room, she noticed that the house was empty. This alarmed her so much that she shouted her name to make sure she was seeing right. Because she was drunk yesterday she forgot that Jane would be working today.
Feeling her headache slightly start again she stopped shouting and went straight to the fridge still thinking about why Jane wasn't in the house as early as it was.
"Did she get kidnapped or abducted"? Alice was still thinking about what could have happened when she noticed a note sticker with words written on it. It was placed on the door of the fridge.
She fastened her footsteps to the fridge while thinking that it was a note left by her kidnappers.
"Alice, I told you that I would be working early today. So sorry I had to leave you all alone, I didn't wake you before leaving so you can sleep more. You were drunk from the champagne you took yesterday, I didn't know you don't drink alcohol-related drinks so well. I made you a hangover soup that's covered on the dining table. And don't forget to call your parents, I spoke with them yesterday while you were sleeping. If you feel hungry feel free to whip up something. Call me if you need anything or are in trouble. Have a nice day and make yourself comfortable. Love you dear"
After reading the note to the end, memories of everything that happened yesterday flooded in and she immediately drank some cold water as she was very thirsty. Feeling better as the cold feeling washed over her body quenching her thirst and slight fever.
Alice hurried back inside her room to pick up her phone to call her family.
"I feel bad"! They must be so worried and sad" Alice mutters in her head as she picks up the phone dialing her mum's number.
"Hello, mum! Alice talks while waiting to hear her mum's voice.
"How are you doing? I am so sorry I didn't get to call you to inform you about how my journey went because I was so tired. I hope everybody is OK"? Alice continued trying to get her mum to understand.
"We have been so worried especially when we called you so many times and you weren't picking up. Everybody is okay over here and we are already missing you terribly" Alice's mum replied in a calm tone convincing her daughter that she was not offended.
"Your friend later picked up the call yesterday, I think while you were sleeping, and said you are doing fine and she seems genuinely happy that you are there with her" Mrs Olivia continued talking in a happy tone.
"Yes Mum, she is happy with us and she has been treating me nicely since yesterday. I can't wait to get a job here and start working. Mum, they pay so well over here. You should see how well they pay people over here. My friend is rich, she even has a car. I will make sure to make things better for us mum, I won't let you down I promise"! Alice happily narrated everything to her mum.
Her mum was so happy hearing all this she wished her luck. "Stay safe my daughter and always remember we are rooting for you over here. We love you so much"! Mrs. Olivia replied to her daughter.
"Thank you, Mum! My regards to everybody ok. I miss you all and I love you all too! Bye Mum"! Alice answered her mum.
"Bye, my daughter"! Her mum waved back and cut the call.
Alice removed the phone from her ear trying hard not to cry and made her way to the dining table to take the hangover soup her friend made for her. Plugging back her phone she noticed that her friend was using a new charger for her phone.
She smiled to herself while opening the hangover soup that was still hot because it was on a thermoplastic plate. "I am really lucky to have you, Jane," Alice said, taking a sip of the soup.
Squeezing her face in shock at the taste of the soup because she had never taken one before. "Oh God! What the hell is this"? Alice cussed while examining the soup.
After some minutes of contemplating whether to continue drinking the soup, decides to try some more before pouring it away since it was made by her friend.
As she continued taking the soup she started feeling better so she tried some more.
Standing up she picked up the plate and poured away the remaining content in the sink. Alice went back into her room and had a quick shower before heading to the kitchen to tidy it up from last night's mess.
She started with washing the plates and other utensils and putting them back in place, separating the trash, cleaning and wiping the floors and surfaces. Before cleaning the other parts of the house.
She made sure that everywhere was sparkling clean before she made breakfast for herself.
It was already getting to noon before Alice finished everything she needed to do. Tired again she decides to rest again and she drifts off to a long nap again waking up by 3 p.m. when she has the urge to pee. Alice, feeling hungry again, went to the kitchen to cook something again.
"Seems like I need to make a lot of food since it's almost time for Jane to get off work," Alice said to herself while calculating her time.
Remembering that her friend was a big fan of mac and cheese with chicken wings when they were in college she decided to try it out.
Opening the fridge Alice was flabbergasted by the amount of groceries that stocked up the fridge. Since she didn't get to look at it closely earlier when she took out her bottle of water.
"This will take months to finish! Damn girl! You are rich indeed" Alice screamed in excitement as she looked and saw that everything she needed to make the meal was there.
