I spent an hour swinging the axe and was completely zoned out until I heard female voices. As soon as I paused, I sensed Cait and Embry near. By the time I turned around, they were nowhere in sight. Victory will be so sweet, my wolf said, and I ignored him. He was insane if he thought taking over as wolf was going to win Cait over. Instead of stressing on what they were doing, I went inside to shower before asking Paul, one of the pack guards, to stack the wood I’d chopped. After I was done cleaning up, I wanted to see Cait. I went to Embry’s house, but they weren’t there. Like a stalker, I crept around to Cait’s bedroom window and slid it open. I’d only done it a time or two before. Okay, maybe three times, but being around her scent calmed me in a way I badly needed.
