Chapter 2

He lifted his hand toward her once more. Her eyes appeared to be drinking him in like water and she was dying of thirst. He could easily strangle the life from her body, and she wouldn’t fight him. Instead, he touched the side of her face. She closed her eyes and leaned into his hand, with a soft sigh escaping from her lips. “This is more heavenly than I thought it would be. I’ve never felt so alive.” She whispered. Magnus put his dagger back into its sheath and gently traced his other hand from her shoulder, down the length of her arm. She shivered and uttered a tiny, almost imperceptible moan. Her acceptance of his touch truly humbled him. What kind of life must she have led to be this open to someone who clearly had harmful intentions towards her. After a few more moments, his hand stilled. Alina opened her eyes to see his expression grim with pain. She looked down at his hand, and saw that it had a grayish tint. Within seconds, the veil of darkness stained her vision once again. There was no more color in world, again. She screamed and backed away as she looked at the pain in his eyes. “No! Please don’t die! You can’t die! I should never have let you touch me! What have I done!” She collapsed to the ground breaking down with sobs. After a few minutes, Magnus knelt down beside her, and raised her up again. “You can hurt me, fae, but my body fights the dark magic. It just takes a few moments before the effects get absorbed by my light magic. I am not going to die. See?” He raised up his hand to show her that the gray had faded away, and wiggled his fingers at her. Her bottom lip was still trembling, as she looked at his hand in disbelief. Her hand planted itself firmly over her heart, and she was breathing raggedly. She gazed in fascination as his palms began to glow once again, and she felt the strange tingling for the second time. The world became bright and colorful again and it was splendid. She knew it must be the time for her end, and she accepted it. Alina was even grateful that the end of her life seemed more dignified than she thought it would be. She had tried to starve herself several times in that dark, cold dungeon. Alone, and abandoned. This was a much better way to go. She knew it would have to happen sooner or later, because of the darkness she possessed. “Thank you again for your amazing gift, it meant more to me than you could ever know. I think I am ready now.” She smiled shakily at her executioner. “Will it hurt?” “You won’t feel a thing.” He whispered before lowering his head and brushing her lips gently with his own. She shuddered and sighed as she lifted her hands and cradled his face with trembling hands. His lips felt warm and soft and her head felt wonderfully dizzy. It was the most heavenly thing she had ever experienced in her life. He tasted of sunshine and light and every wish she had ever made in her life. She leaned in to try and touch her body against him and feel his warmth. A bright light burst from his palm and she collapsed into a world of darkness.
