*Later that evening*
Kiki arrived for the monthly dinner hosted by the chairman of RichCreek business union for all the elite business owners where they met to gossip, pick up information, expose enemies' secrets, and all other nasty things in the guise of having dinner.
As she looked around with a glass of classic wine in her hand looking for familiar faces (not those whose business she stole) to chat with, her eyes settled on Fey Adams, her highly frustrating target sitting at the bar looking all mighty and confident like she had not a care in the world. Kiki walked on to a corner where she could silently watch her prey without distraction and kept trying to read Fey. What kind of a person is she? What does she like? Who is she? What's her story? How do I get what I want from her?
Fey felt it all. There was definitely someone out there looking at her and it wasn't in a good way. She calmly took a sip of the wine in her hand, savoring its taste and, with a smile on her face, she turned around to slowly look at each of the faces of everyone there, both those talking in groups and those on their own. Unfortunately, the feeling remained in her and it wasn't from any of them. When her eyes came in contact with Brian, her very good friend and friendly competitor, she smiled even more widely as he walked towards her and she put down her glass on the counter and gave him a big hug. With Brian by her side, she ignored the feeling and went ahead to enjoy her chat with Brian before they moved ahead to chat with mutual friends and a few associates around the room.
Kiki, in her semi-hidden corner, was not aware of such great luck coming for her till she heard Fey's name being mentioned by a group who sounded very much like they were in awe of her (Fey) and more than a little jealous. She listened in on their conversation before deciding to join them so she could ask a few questions directly.
As she approached, they fell silent and wearily wondered who among them was her next target.
"Hi, I'm Kiki Billings."
With no reply from any of them, she smiled and said.
"I could not help but hear your conversation about Fey Adams and I must confess that I'm more than a little interested in knowing more about her."
When she said that, they were more than relieved that they were not the target and even glad that it was someone whom they were all jealous of. It was as though they were telepathically connected as their thoughts were alike.
One by one they started talking almost to each other without waiting for the other to finish speaking.
"She's a b***h, right?"
"I hate her guts."
"Look at her acting like she's better than us all."
And, more hate speeches, Rita looked at Kiki, who had a smile on her face but looking closely, looked like they had all disgusted her with the nonsense they were saying which helped her in no way at all. Dramatically seeking attention, she said.
"Oh please!" "Fey (drawing out her name) is a low-life b***h who doesn't know that not all of us are unaware of her origins." Glancing at Kiki she could see that she had her full attention and every other person as well, because they were all itching to hear anything nasty on Fey. She continued.
"She is from a small town a few hundred kilometers from here (she intentionally left out its name knowing that she could get something for that from Kiki) and is the daughter of the poorest and most pitiable couple there. She managed to get educated as the people out of their kindness paid for her education from elementary through high school as a scholarship beneficiary."
After that, she excused herself and walked off like she suddenly saw an important person to speak to. Everyone's eyes followed her and she knew it as she was smiling triumphantly.
Thirty seconds later, dinner was announced and Kiki took her seat with a light heart but made sure her eyes followed Rita everywhere just to make sure the over-dramatic b***h did not give her a hard time finding her. Ten minutes later, when she could not hold it any longer, she went to where Rita was seated having dinner and rudely told her.
"We need to talk!"
"Excuse me, but you can see that I am having dinner."
Kiki did not even grace her with a reply but roughly dragged Rita, who almost stumbled before righting her footing and following behind her. They got to the door leading out and Kiki indicated for Rita to step out first before she shut the door firmly and turned to Rita with a raised brow.
"I want a hundred thousand dollars for the information."
"I can get it out from you at no cost but that of my men," Kiki said.
"Fine, twenty thousand."
"Speak!"
"The town is called Bullhedge. It is situated north of here at about three hundred kilometers and her parents are John and Dilia Adams."
Kiki opened her purse, took out two bundles of ten thousand dollars each in hundred dollar notes and threw them to Rita before opening the door and walking straight to the exit and, without another thought, entered her car and drove off. While she drove, she took out her phone and called the lead private investigator, giving him the information she had received and telling him to get to it immediately.
When she got home, she took a shower and sweetly opened a bottle of the best wine she had, knowing that she was finally getting close to her goal, and took it to her private room where she sat in the dark enjoying the bottle.
Less than twenty hours later, Kiki got a call from the detective saying he was able to trace her (Fey) family back, though many people couldn’t seem to recall who they were and those who did said they disappeared five years ago with no information on where they were going to or even any contact to reach them through.
Her frustration skyrocketed.
“Blast that woman. I promise that I’ll make her pay for putting me through all this.”
“Well, don’t just stop there. Do what you can, stalk her if you have to, but you must bring me back information or you will pay for wasting my time.” She dropped the call and threw her cell phone to the wall towards her right. Turning to where she threw her phone, she sneered and said.
“Fey Adams, I promise to break you just like this cell phone. You will have nowhere and nothing to hide from me.”
