6 Hailey Although I had other questions I was dying to ask him, we ate in silence. I could tell he had things on his mind and was quickly learning that he wasn’t the most talkative. Neither was I, though, for that matter. Finally, I pushed my plate away and sat back, my hunger satisfied. I leaned against the chair and thanked him again for dinner. “It was my pleasure.” He took the last bite of his spaghetti and then stood up. I watched as he started clearing the table. I got out of my chair and picked up my plate. “Let me help you.” We brought the dishes into the kitchen and rinsed them out in the sink. Afterward, Ransom opened up the refrigerator and turned back to me. “I can’t believe it. I forgot we had some wine. I’d brought a couple of bottles with me the last time I stopped by.
