14 Ransom –––––––– The bike screamed beneath me, giving sound to my fury. I hunched lower, taking another series of turns at high speed, and caught the flash of a red car ahead, hugging the guardrail. The sun glinted off the passenger side window before the car dipped into a patch of shade. For a brief moment, I saw the outline of Hailey’s head. She was alive. At least sitting upright in the passenger seat. I’d feared that Jordan had decided to kill her and it was a relief to see that she wasn’t dead. But other fears also rose in my mind. Once Jordan saw me following, would he unleash his rage on Hailey? Or... would his already reckless driving escalate until he lost control?
