27 –––––––– Hailey Ransom closed the door. His hand rested on the doorknob for a moment. Finally, he sighed and turned to face me. Even though he was smiling, it didn’t come anywhere close to reaching his eyes. It hurt me to see the exhaustion etched on his face. It hurt more knowing that I was the reason all of this was happening. “You okay?” I asked. With another sigh, he moved across the room to where I stood and then pulled my head against his chest. “Yeah. I’m okay.” He rested his chin on the top of my head. “I guess I’m not very good at taking orders.” “Well, you handled it pretty well, if I do say so myself.” I raised my head and our eyes met. “You want to talk about it?” “No, not now.
