SELENE'S POV
Debt
I had been turning that word over in my mind since she whispered it in the courtroom.
Debt. What do I possibly have that a woman like her would want?
I was still thinking about it when she walked through my door.
She sat down in the chair by the window, crossed her legs, folded her hands in her hands in her laps.
"I think we both know why I'm here," She said, "Your debt, On the night of the full moon I want you to arrange a night with Draven. Just the two of you."
The words landed on my head like something dropped from great height.
"You want me to…"
" I want what I am owed," She said quietly
"And if I refuse?"
" I will retract my testimony tomorrow morning and you will face those seven men again. And this time without me."
She walked to the door about to leave.
"There are seven days before the full moon, you have till then to decide Selene" she shut the door behind me without waiting for a response.
I stood in silence after she left and I couldn't move.
The full moon
Of all the nights she could have chosen she chose that one. And she knew exactly what the full moon does to a mate bond. It doesn't just heighten it. It consumes it.
On a full moon there were no walls strong enough, no willpower disciplined enough and no amount of hatred or grief that could stand between two fated mates and what the bond demanded.
Lily Ashveil was playing a game that I had not even known I was in.
And I had seven days to figure out her real motive before the full moon.
My wolf wasn't even thinking about any of this. It was thinking about him.
It had been doing that since the recovery room and it hasn't stopped not even during the hearing that he didn't even utter a word in our favour, It just wanted Draven.
I was still arguing with it when his scent hit my nose.
Draven.
Then there were three soft knocks on the door
I knew even before opening the door that it was Draven.
I stood there for a moment. Before I decided to open the door, he stood in the corridor with no warriors. No official reason written on his face.
"Alpha," I muttered.
"Selene, I came to check on you," he clarified, walking into the room. "How are your wounds healing?" he asked, scanning my body with his eyes.
"Most of them are done healing, just a few remaining." I replied, closing the door behind me.
"Good," he said
The room went quiet.
He stood there and his eyes were moving around the room like he was looking for something to say but was short of words, and was buying time.
"How are you holding up?" he asked, breaking the silence. "I hope you are adjusting to the environment well enough" he draws close to me
"I am adjusting well enough, Alpha, thank you for asking." I gave him a dismissive response.
He was quiet for a moment then he responded "You do not have to call me Alpha," he said quietly. "Not when we are alone,"
I said nothing.
He looked at me, really hard, then he started walking towards me . I did not move. He stopped right in front of me, and his hand came up. His fingers touched my jaw. Just that, just the warmth of his hands and I forgot every reason I had to step back. His face dropped toward mine.
My wolf started spiraling out of excitement, she wanted this more than anything.
"Draven" I called out softly, trying to stop him.
"Quiet." he said, taking my chin in a firm grip and tilting my head up to look at him.
I felt sparks lightning up in my stomach, I tried to fight this feeling but I couldn't do much. Not when my wolf was not even helping matters.
"Selene," he called out softly, "You do not have any idea what you do to me, every time I try to walk away you somehow pull me back" he placed his hands on my waist and held me up close enough to him.
My eyes scanned through his face properly at that moment, He looked so handsome. I could not control my breath properly, my chest was just rising and falling too fast, I could not slow it down.
Without thinking I found myself placing my hands on his chest, feeling his heart beat, beating as fast as my own.
The distance between us seemed to fade away without any of us even noticing. My eyes flickered to his lips, and I swallowed thickly. They were so full and so inviting.
My wolf was struggling to surface, she wanted nothing more than to kiss him.
"Selene," my name rolled off his tongue so perfectly. His warm breath fanned my face, sending shivers down my spine.
His lips hovered over mine, just one move and I would get to know what those lips taste like.
I almost took the chance.
For a split second, every other thing but him faded to the background, but when I closed my eyes, everything came rushing back.
I immediately jumped out of his hold and inhaled sharply.
What the hell was I thinking?
Without wasting any more time, I grabbed the door handle and pulled it open.
"You have to leave."
He raised a brow, eyes narrowed in concern. "What is…" He tried to reach for me but I immediately jumped out of his reach.
I couldn't trust myself to act right with his hands on me, and I needed him to leave.
"Please go, now."
"Are you ordering an alpha?"
My heart dropped. I lowered my head the next moment, "I wouldn't dare, but I need you to leave, alpha. Please."
I held my breath, waiting for a lash out, but then I felt him walk past me. I immediately shut the door and rested my back against it as though he was going to come back anytime soon.
