Sounds floated around in my mind, noises which seemed vaguely familiar, but remained distant. I thought they were part of a dream. Or was it a nightmare? My eyelids were so heavy, I could imagine tiny lead weights had been attached to each of my eyelashes, keeping them down. Everything hurt. I occasionally heard voices speaking in low tones, rendering the words unrecognizable.
