I had been sitting at the front door waiting for a letter from him for hours, and there was no sign of the delivery man. Then I recall when I was 13, and he assured me we would get married when we were old enough. He pinky promised me. We were pretty close, not like Gabriella and me, but because he was my first friend other than my sister. And now I'm 19, still waiting for his letters, and my thinking suggests maybe it's enough. So I rose, dusted the dirt off my bottom, and walked to my sister's study.

I was in my study reading a romance novel when my brother Gabrielle barged in, still keeping my eye on the book.
"He still doesn't respond,'' my brother replied, whining.
"Maybe he forgot about you."
"Ella, you're not helping,'' he whimpered. I rolled my eyes.
''Then what am I expected to do?'' I remarked, putting my book down.
''Help!''
''Hmm, maybe you should quit sending letters to that guy,'' I suggested.
''That's not helpful,'' my brother pouted.
"Haven't you noticed he's been ignoring you all these years, and you've spent your time and energy writing those letters and waiting for them every day, you even miss dinner sometimes," I added, as my brother kept his eyes downcast and stared at the floor.
''Ugh,'' my brother groaned. ''I hate that you're right,'' he says.
''Anyway, did you know there would be a big event in the Spade Kingdom? Mother instructed me to send you this." I remarked as I offered Gabrielle an invitation. ''What is this about?'' he questioned. ''A gala to which you will invite every royal family. Every detail is covered in the invitation.''
''You know the dress code, wear white clothes to every event,'' I added sarcastically.
''Because it complemented our white hair?'' he questioned. "Yes, and to signify our Kingdom,'' I then responded.
''Have you ever wondered when we'll find our mates?'' I said. ''No, why?'' Gabrielle tilts his head, then adds, '' I've told him we'd be married.'' Gabrielle refers to his so-called childhood lover. Seriously, is my brother that naive?
I rolled my eyes ''Gabrielle. You understand the consequences. It'll hurt you.'' I said, referring to mate bonds '' I know, but a promise is a promise,'' he regretfully stated. Then he said ''Ella. I have to go now.''
I then slumped down on the chair.

I strolled down to my bedroom and wondered what I should wear to the gala. Then my head whirled, thinking about him. Did he remember me? Did he die? What happened to him? Did my letter reach him? Will I find him at the gala? What if I find my mate before him?
Then thoughts of him began to disappear.
Well, I suppose it's time to prepare for the gala.
-The Next Few Days-
The servants hurried in and out of the bedrooms and halls, bringing loads of white garments, rushing around, panicked and heavy breathing, preparing the royal family of hearts kingdom. Today is the day of the enormous gathering conducted by the spade kingdom. It is traditional. Everyone, from celebrities to royal families, is invited.

I gazed through the mirror and adjusted my white royal outfit. It was itching me. It had been so long since I'd been preparing for a massive event like this.
I glanced across at my sister, who was adjusting her white gown, and she asked, ''How do I look?''
''Hmm,'' I responded, ''be truthful,'' she said, pouting.
"Beautiful," I remarked, disinterested; "whatever," she added as she combed her hair.
Gabriella grabbed my hand and led me to a table where three of Gabriella's crowns were sitting next to each other. ''I had problems selecting. Which one do you think? " I then pointed to the third seat on the right, ''that one.''
"I was thinking the same,'' she cheerfully added. I smiled at her. She took the crown and attempted to place it on her head. She looked to have problems, so I offered my aid. ''Here, let me.'' I offered. I fixed the crown on her head, ''there,'' I murmured.
We both then stared in the mirror. ''Where's your crown?'' she inquired, ''Ella, I only have one crown." I rolled my eyes, ''eh,'' she then shrugged.
There was a sudden knock at the door, ''yes,'' we both responded. The door opened, showing a maid. She bowed to us, then added,'' your highness, you'll be departing in 10 minutes.'' Then we both said ''okay''.
"Would you kindly put my crown on me, Ella?" I offered her. "Yes, brother," she murmured as she delicately put the crown on my head. "There,'' she said.
-6 Minutes Later-
Our mother, Queen Alice, opened the door. "Are you ready, sweethearts?'' "Yes, mother,'' we both responded. Mother then walked toward us, then grabbed each of our hands, ''Shall we?'' She murmured. Ella and I nodded.
The three of us head down to the foyer, where my brother Isaac Heart and father, King Lennox Heart, are waiting patiently for us.
When we reached down, father then checked his watch ''we should go now,'' he said. He glanced up at Ella and me and remarked, ''You guys look wonderful.'' Smiling, ''Thank you, papa.'' We both said. Ella then embraces papa. She's always been his favourite, whereas I'm my mother's favourite.
We all proceed to the front doors, where two carriages are waiting for us.
While my mother and father were put in another carriage, me, Ella and Isaac went up to the other carriage one by one. When the carriage began moving,'' You both ready?'' Isaac inquired. Ella and I took a long breath, and our hearts beat fast. Then we nodded our heads.
It will take at least 2 hours to arrive from the Heart Kingdom to the Spade Kingdom.
