Chapter 5 Monday, April 4th KurtAfter meeting with Melanie this afternoon, I agreed to rent the little apartment over her dress shop. It wasn’t the shiniest place I’d ever lived, but it would work for the next couple of weeks. I unpacked my suitcases and looked through the cupboards. They contained a half-used jar of peanut butter and a canister of coffee. Not sufficient fare for dinner. I grabbed my keys and headed to the only joint open in town for dinner, Cowboy’s Bar. Two other cars parked in front of the door. I angled into a spot a few feet down from the others and made my way into the bar. The barman wiped down the counter and talked to the few customers eating at the bar. The juke box played old country music in the background. The booths were empty as I made my way to the bar.
