Despite her reserve, Felina had let him see the cats that she fed. He suspected it was because he was frequently there at their feeding time and not because she actually wanted him to see it, but it still felt good that she trusted him enough to show him. He had been shocked by the number of cats that showed up when the chime was rung twice, but he had done his best not to show it. The rust-colored cat that had run out in front of his truck was not among them. When he asked Felina again about the rust-colored cat, she said she hadn’t seen one.
