Writing to someone I had never met and might never meet turned out to be harder than writing code. Code had specifications. Code had a target behavior and a current behavior and the gap between them was the problem to solve. A letter to an unknown future player had none of that. I did not know who they were, what they knew coming in, whether they were a developer or a gamer or someone who had never held a controller in their life. I did not know how much time they would have before the world started trying to kill them in earnest, or whether they would find the monument before the bandits found them, or whether the words I chose would help or overwhelm or misdirect.
