Like a passing wind, Isabella’s existence faded, leaving us unconcerned about his well-being.
That night, Dane stayed with me, giving the woman no attention. He referred to her as a shameless woman who doesn’t know any better. Moreover, my husband reprimanded me, saying that I should not entertain someone as undesirable as her.
Dane made sure that it was drilled into my mind that I was the rightful mistress of this house, the only woman who could claim to be his other half.
I smiled at those words, letting him be satisfied with my reaction. Inwardly, however, I dared not believe his words and was once again hurt by him. Trusting no one had become my only defense against this world. I couldn’t even feel sorry for Dane as I lied openly in front of him.
