The phone buzzed again in my hand, a low vibration that felt like a warning shot against my palm. I stared at the screen, at those final words—Tick tock, Mr. CEO—until they blurred. My blood was ice and fire at the same time, roaring in my ears, making the penthouse feel too small, too quiet.
Then her voice floated down the hallway, soft and playful, cutting straight through the chaos in my head.
