Alessandro's POV
After the first class discussion ended, we made our way to the cafeteria to grab some snacks. Throughout the walk, she remained silent, which made me wonder if I had unintentionally offended her.
"Are you mad at me?" I asked, finally breaking the silence. She looked at me, shook her head, and glanced around the cafeteria.
"I just remembered what happened yesterday. What if they targeted you too once they find out that we're close?" she voiced her concern. Her words struck a guilty chord within me because there was no way I would be targeted. After all, the one who shot her is my bestfriend.
"Don't worry about such things. Focus on your own safety first," I reassured her, trying to sound sincere. However, she glared at me, clearly not convinced.
"But if something were to happen to you, I wouldn't be able to sleep. You're my friend, after all," she insisted. I couldn't help but smile sarcastically. She was so clueless, completely unaware that she was trying to protect the very person who wanted to harm her. Oh, the irony.
We arrived at the cafeteria, and she found us a seat while I offered to grab the food. I told her to stay put, and she agreed, remaining at our table. She kept looking around anxiously, like a paranoid cat, but there was nothing for her to worry about, at least not from me, for now.
I approached the counter and placed our food order, randomly selecting whatever caught my eye. Returning to our seat, I announced, "They'll bring the drinks to us," as I set down the tray of snacks on the table.
"Since earlier, I've had this feeling that something bad is going to happen," she confessed, while picking up a fries. I sat down next to her and scanned the surroundings. I don't really see any suspicious except to myself.
"Hmm, enemies usually don't strike two days in a row, especially after failing the first attempt," I remarked, and she nodded in agreement.
"Well, but what if I have multiple enemies who plan to attack on different consecutive days?" she pondered.
"In that case, let me tag along. It's not like they'll dare to attack you when you're with a filthy rich friend like me," I replied, emphasizing my fake identity as a wealthy individual.
"Well... hahaha, you're right. Just promise me you won't get hurt, okay?" she said, and I simply nodded. We enjoyed our snacks and continued our conversation. After a few minutes, our drinks finally arrived.
"Which one is mine, Sandro?" she asked, while inserting a straw into the drinks.
"Whichever one you like," I replied, and she chose the iced tea. As I was about to take a sip of my drink, my phone suddenly vibrated, catching my attention.I quickly pick it up and look at it.
"Mission done," a message from Luca. A sudden realization struck me.
Without wasting a second, I grabbed Valentina's hand and swiftly discarded the iced tea. It's possible that Luca put poison to it considering how he handed a poison bottle last night.
"What are you doing?!" she exclaimed, confused by my actions. I gave her a smile, trying to maintain my composure.
"Did you take a sip?" I asked and she shook her head. I breathe in relief but I realized what I just did now... Did I really saved my enemy?
"What's happening? Why did you three my drinks away?" She confusedly asked.
"You know, I just realized something. Haha, considering you're a walking target prone, it's not safe to drink beverages from a public place like this. Let me get you a canned drink instead," I explained. She was still taken aback but eventually agreed.
"You're right... sigh, I can't even enjoy meals at cafeterias anymore," she pouted as she put away everything we had bought.
I excused myself from Valentina's side, telling her that I needed to grab drinks from the vending machine. However, instead of heading to the vending machine, I made my way to the restroom to make a call to Luca. To my surprise, Luca was already waiting for me there.
"What the hell, Drei!" he lashed out at me, grabbing my collar. But in a split second, I reacted and swiftly grabbed his neck, pushing him against the wall.
"Dude listen carefully, I'm the one who will kill her, Luca. I'm the only one allowed to do so. Don't cross the line again. Your mission is to watch over me and support me, that's all. Keep that in your mind, dude," I said firmly, releasing my grip on him.
"Don't fall for her. Carla will be mad at me," he warned, and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Like I care about Carla," I scoffed, and he burst into laughter.
"Drei it's a prank! Hahaha, come on, hahaha, I'm just kidding. I didn't do anything today. Hahaha, I just wanted to see your reaction, but your heroism surprised me," he admitted, so I quickly kicked his ass off.
"Don't do it again," I warned him, but he continued laughing, his craziness shining through. So In the end, he hadn't put any poison in the drinks earlier hayss he just scared me! This fucker..
"But if I really did something, she would have died without even realizing it. She's the embodiment of carelessness," he remarked when he stopped laughing, and I couldn't help but agree.
"I'll go now. Don't mess with me again, or else I'll beat you to a pulp," I threatened him and he put his hands up as if surrendering to me.
"Try me dude" I said and made my way back to the cafeteria. Before rejoining Valentina, I grabbed some canned drinks. When I returned, I found her busy eating sachet crackers instead.
"Here," I said, handing the drinks to her.
"You took so long," she remarked, her tone slightly suspicious. I forced a smile, trying to hide the fact that I had met someone before returning.
"I was just taking care of some men's thing," I replied, trying to brush off her suspicion. She gave me a disapproving glare.
"What a gross remark," she commented while slightly disgusted. I couldn't help but laugh at her.
We made our way back to the classroom after enjoying our snacks. Valentina was engrossed in her laptop when she called my name.
"Sandro," she said, her voice hesitant. I noticed a strand of hair that was bothering her, so I gently brushed it away and tucked it behind her ear.
"What is it?" I asked, curious about her sudden hesitation. Her ears turned red as she struggled to find the right words.
"I... um... I didn't mean to ask, but we have plans tomorrow, and I realized I don't have your number," she finally managed to say, her words filled with uncertainty but I got it. It just funny how she was clearly beating around the bush.
I chuckled and teased her, "Hahaha, so you want my number?" She glared at me, displaying her tsundere side.
"Give me your number instead," I suggested, handing her my phone. She took it, a mischievous smile on her face.
"Hehehe, remember, it was you who asked for my number," she playfully reminded me as she typed it in. I simply nodded, amused by her antics.
"Whatever, Valentina," I replied, and she handed my phone back to me. I called her immediately so that my number would be saved in her contacts, and her phone rang.
"That's my number," I confirmed, and she quickly saved it.
"Hehehehe, I'll call you later," she said, a hint of excitement in her voice. Regardless, I was glad to have her personal contact without having to go through any complicated means.
To be continued...
