Chapter 16

“Harlot, who do you think you are?" Madame Poof shouted as she gave me a resounding slap. The other slaves turned to my direction. They shivered in fear. I held my right cheeks with my hands . It was red and burning. Tears hung in my eyes. Madame Poof pulled me by my dark hair and banged my head on the table nearby. I remembered what the old man had told me "don't let them see you cry.” I sniffed and flicker the tears away. I looked through the corner of my eyes. I saw Lira, she was also a were wolf from my pack too. She was one of the slaves too. She looked at me. She looked like she was about three or four years older than I was. She was a red head, her hair was quite outstanding. She was pretty, very pretty. She had brown eyes. She looked at me with such pitiful eyes, her eyes reminded me of my mother. It reminded me of how my mother looked at me the day she left for the war. I then flashed back and remembered some events "Mum, don't leave me, Mum, you don't have to fight in the war, you can stay with me, I want to be with you mum, I don't have anyone else , I don't want you to die just like Dad did.” I kept on remembering the event clearly, "Hush now,” my mum said hugging me tightly. "I would be back Sophia, hold on wait for me, I have to be victorious in this war for your Dad,” She said bravely. “Your Dad didn't die in vain, He didn't! I have to fight too!" she said flicking my hair backwards. "But Mum, you don't have to, you really don't have to," I said on between sobs. "I love you my Sophia, I will never leave you. You are strong, you are brave, you are independent.” “Mum, why are you saying all this?” I said looking up to see her face. "Ha, calm down Honey,” she hugged me tightly “Calm down, I’ll be back, I'll be strong for you.” I really was not satisfied with any word that came out of my Mum's mouth. I didn't want comfort at all. This was how it was with Dad, I was comforted and left heartbroken at the end. My mum should know this better than anyone, she felt comforted that Dad would return and got heart broken at the end. My mum left to fight for the war anyway. She released me from her warm embrace and walked away. I stood there by the door way of our little house watching my mum's back move further. My mum looked back at me and that was the last time I ever saw her face. I wish I could turn back time anyway . I should have done something that would have left her no choice but to stay with me. If I did so, this old Madam Poof wouldn't have been banging my head on the table like I was an animal. I believe animals even receive better treatment compared to me. Yes! Lira's facial expression reminded me of my mum's. Lira looked at me as if she was trying to give me confidence at that moment. Madame Poof started ranting all over again. She slapped me harder this time, I lost my stamina and fell face flat on the floor. I looked helpless. The most I'll treated slave. That is what I am. "We should have killed you immediately you were brought to our pack?" "Alpha Brian just had to keep you, you should have died a long time ago, you've killed a lot of our brothers and sisters already, but if we had killed you, you would not suffer all the pains you at suffering now, you would have died immediately and we would not get to inflict all the pains we wish to on your body.” "That's merciful on the part of Alpha Brian anyway but how did you even repay him?" "You harlot, claiming to be Alpha Clint's mate,” Madame Poof was clearly disgusted by just looking at me. "What are you? A spy? See how well you could fight even as a young lad from the Sun Pack. You could even kill some of our well trained werewolves at a young age.” Madam Poof wouldn't stop. She kept throwing me all around the little eating room for the slaves. All this all because I wanted some extra portion of food. I couldn't help it anyway. I was so weak , I needed to at least eat even more, just a bit wouldn't hurt. "You are better off without any food," she yelled and kicked my on my abdomen. "You bunch of morons , what are you looking at?" Madame Poof yelled and walked out of the room. The other slaves looked at me. I had no relationship with any of them at all, they barely talked to me. We only spoke when we were doing a general duty and it was only words that concerned our work. I crawled holding my abdomen, I reached one of the chairs and tables in the eating hall. "Hey,” I heard. I looked up and saw Lira staring at me. Her red tattered hair fell on her shoulders. She stretched her hands and helped me up. There was a moment of silent between us for a while. "Thank you,” I replied modestly. “Your nose is bleeding," Lira said reaching out to clean them up for me. I shrugged, they really did hurt. Madame Poof might just have broken my nose from the banging on the tables. I hoped they weren't broken anyway, these wicked people wouldn't even care in giving me proper treatment. "Thank you, what's your name?" "Lira Klaus," she said "And you are Sophia," she smiled at me. I was so tired. I smiled weakly back at her. Lira then said, "Everyone knows your name here Sophia.” Why wouldn't they anyway, I am the most popular and most hated slave around here coupled with the fact that I was also the youngest. "Back to your cells, dinner and is over you bag of bones. It's lights out," Madame Poof yelled as she walked into the hall. Lira slipped me something little tied in some pieces of clothes. I peeped in, It was food. I looked at her. Apart from Alpha Clint, no one has ever been so nice to me since I got to this place. "Thank you" I said. I hid it under my clothes. We walked out of the eating hall. We had to take numbers before retiring to our different cells. I was led by one of the guards to my cell. He quickly locked the cell door behind me with a bang. There I was once again within these dark walls. I brought out the food wrapped in the piece of cloth and unwrapped it. It was quite a lot of food. "Thank you Lira," I said. "Just maybe I might put on little weight and look more attractive to Alpha Clint," I thought to myself. But at the same time I didn't understand why I was feeling the way I did after all I was in much more trouble for being claimed to be his mate. It didn't matter. My inner wolf wanted him. Ever since our first kiss, I couldn't stop thinking about him. His lips were quite soft and inviting but yet commanding power. I remember how he pulled my face down to his. It should have been the other way anyway. That's him lifting up my chin in order for my lips to meet his but anyway I would take it anyway. I low-key longed for a second kiss. “No, I don't even look attractive to him anyway,” I told myself, I was behaving like a child. I looked at the meal which Lira had given . It was some bread and some brown liquid that they called soup. I have to get more flesh to cover up this bones. I'll also do my best to stay away from whips and slaps. I scoffed and looked up to the ceiling. I never did anything to warrant the beatings that I got. Oh, how I missed parental love. but I didn't want to think about my parents anymore because anytime I did that, I always felt betrayed most especially by Mum. I need happy thoughts only anyway. I kept eating my bread and soup.. It was finished already. I lay on the cold floor. There was no bed in my cell. Such wickedness. I had Obliged some fabrics which I used to protect myself from the cold. it really helped me anyway, without it I should have gone down with a fever since. I kept my mind on Alpha Clint only and maybe Lira Klaus. That seemed just right. They were the only ones who should be thought of, no one else.
