While waiting for the doctor's advice, Aria texted Lucio to inform him of what was happening. She knew that it may be impossible for Lucio to take his flight back home because he had just started his business trip. Aria is in the room, and Fortune is still in the emergency room. She was so worried and couldn't think straight. She can't stop her tears. She wished for a perfect life and she thought she already had everything when she married Lucio. They are her everything.
"I hope he is fine. I don't know what else to do, Selda." She uttered while Selda was caressing her back.
"He will be for sure. Don't worry too much. The Head Master wouldn't allow anything bad for his beloved, especially his grandsons." Selda assured Aria, and she couldn't disagree with those thoughts.
"Where are they?" she asked when she realized she had not seen them after she rushed Fortune to the hospital.
"They will be here by morning. The Head Master told me to stay with you for a while. You look exhausted. It is best if you can rest while the doctor hasn't gone out of Fortune's room yet. We can't afford another patient in the family," Selda answered.
"I don't think I can rest my mind while my son is battling for his life. I cannot comprehend that Fortune is suffering from something like this while his brothers are healthy." She said, wondering.
"I understand, but you must take care of yourself too." Selda said, and she made her point.
Instead of waiting in their private room, Aria invited Selda to the prayer room. She wanted to ask for help spiritually to guide her and for the fast recovery of her son. She doesn't recall the last time she went to church. Maybe on her wedding day, if that can be considered.
"I will just wait here outside, Madam!" Selda said.
"Please join me! It would be a huge help if the two of us made a prayer and submitted our offerings to God." She insisted, and finally, Selda joined in her prayer.
It was so solemn and peaceful. Deep in her heart, she regrets that she forgot about the Lord. She recognized her shortcomings and her failures to always honor God. She looks up to material things and the good life. She knew her faults and her gratitude for having a wholesome life. She missed the opportunity to glorify the Almighty God while she was enjoying the peak of earthly possessions.
"I have realized all my mistakes for forgetting about you when I chose to take the path of loving and praising the material goods that were granted to me. Please forgive me! My life will be worthless without my family. Please spare my family from indemnification and save my son from whatever he is going through right now. He still has a purpose and this life needs someone like him." She uttered while her tears were freely flowing down her cheeks.
Her eyes are sad and sore. She felt better after she voiced out her prayers. She had seen Selda waiting for her outside the room. Keila and Alexander are in Fortune's room already, but the doctor hasn't been there yet when they arrived.
"Anything from the Doctor?" Alexander asked.
"Nothing that I heard from him since we checked in at the hospital," Aria replied.
She cannot hide her gloomy and haggard look while Keila is so serious and remains untouched.
"How's Lucky and Charm?" Aria was checking on her two boys who stayed in the mansion.
"Fine. You don't have to worry about them. They are being taken care of," Keila answered.
The door opened and the doctor showed up. His expression was alarming because he looked frustrated.
"Doc, how's my son?" she asked without a wink.
"I'm sorry to say that we haven't been able to pinpoint the cause of his illness. We've tried everything in hours," the doctor said.
Aria looked down, trying hard to absorb what he had just said.
"What we can do now is stabilize his condition to prevent him from vomiting too much blood and to ensure he has enough oxygen in his body. I need to go through a series of tests. I wanted to give you a heads up that this case isn't common, and it's the only case we've had so far in which we haven't found any clue," the doctor said.
"Please do everything that is needed to save my son's life, Doc!" Aria pleaded.
The doctor explained, "We will. That's our job. Please be tough, Mrs. Moreau, for this will not be an easy journey. The tests will be done after our conversation. I just got out of the room to advise you of the real situation. I have to get back to work now." The doctor explained.
She was left in tears. She didn't know how many tears she had to shed every time she thought of Fortune.
"The doctors are doing their job. Let's just wait for the result," Alexander was confident.
Aria grabs his hand and takes a deep breath. She looks into his eyes, but she cannot see his real emotions. His face was stronger than ever.
"Forgive me, but we can't stay here any longer. Keila and I have lots to do," Alexander said, and he walked away.
Keila followed him without a word to Aria. She feels like she was alone at that time. Thanks to Selda, for somehow she got a company. She can't talk to Lucio all the time because of their time difference.
"Madam, what do you want for lunch? I am going out to buy us some food," Selda said.
She answered while her mind was floating, which can be seen through her eyes.
"Alright, I will be right back," Selda replied hesitantly.
She doesn't want to leave Aria, but she has to. In less than thirty minutes, Selda found Aria sitting on the floor in one corner of the room.
"Madam, I bought you some porridge to fill up your hungry stomach. Let's have some of this, it's going to be a long day." Selda said, but Aria is not paying attention.
Selda approaches her and helps her to stand up as she holds her shaky hands.
Selda reminded her. "We need more energy. It's almost lunch yet we have not eaten anything. The triplets need you, so you have to be strong."
Meanwhile, they consumed all the food as they were bothered by the diagnosis of the doctors after the tests.
"Mrs. Moreau, I need a minute with you." The doctor said as soon as he got into their room.
Selda and Aria look at each other nervously, yet hoping for positive news to come from the doctor's mouth.
"Sad to say, but I would suggest transferring your son to a different hospital. I know this time is crucial and we cannot waste any more minutes as this may put his life in danger. However, on our end, we couldn't figure out what his illness was. We can stabilize him, but this will not treat him for good," the doctor explained.
"You are saying that you cannot find a cure for my child?" Aria asks.
She was hysterical about the news she received.
"Yes. I suggest bringing him to another private hospital that has more advanced technology in Manila. I can refer you to one, however, with Fortune's health condition, where his platelets are down and his oxygen level can be worsened by longer travel time," the doctor said.
"You are making a suggestion that is out of reach. What for? Just to have a say in my face? I am so disappointed! What kind of hospital are you in?" she blurted out angrily.
She could not contain her madness about the situation, and the specialist was sorry for not being able to meet her expectations. She ordered Selda to try calling the Head Master, but he was off the line. The doctor walks back out of the room.
"What are we going to do now?" Selda whispered, scared.
"I don't know! Sorry son, Mom is losing hope and is now very afraid." She voiced her true feelings.
They heard the noises from outside, and it sounded like there was an emergency going on. Aria opened the door and checked what it was for. She recognized that it was coming from the emergency room where Fortune was admitted. She ran quickly to see what was happening.
"Let me get in!" she ordered.
"Ma'am, please stay outside. This is an emergency and outsiders are not allowed." the nurse said.
"I am not an outsider. That kid was my son. Please allow me to be with him. Maybe I can be of help," Aria cried.
"Sorry ma'am, but I need to kick you out for a while. We will take care of him," the nurse said, forcefully grabbing Aria out of the room.
They lock it out, but she can view it from the small window glass. They are trying to revive him. Aria can't do anything but wait, pray harder, and watch her son from afar. She could no longer bear the view, so she decided to walk away and sat down in the waiting area. Her tears were dry and she could shed no more. Selda came in a hurry to be her support. She wanted to break down right away, but Fortune didn't want that.
Selda keeps on saying, "Stay calm, Madam. You can do this. Be strong."
On the other hand, Lucio ended his business meeting at five in the afternoon, but there was a social function he had to attend. He forgot to open his phone because he was confident about the state of his family when he left the country, and the company was entrusted to the Vice President, who is also a Filipino. He doesn't want to miss this kind of social function because it is his chance to expose and build a network for his company's future expansion. He was staying in a luxurious hotel in the US, and he was happy to see that most of the employees were Filipinos. He did not wonder why, because he knew that they were real and hard-working employees. Like his company, it is composed of the perfect force of Filipino employees. He was just done chatting with other businessmen and exchanging contacts. That's when he realized his phone was off. He received messages from Aria, but he didn't bother to read them first.
"I am happy to meet you here!"Gregory, his college buddy, said.
"I am shocked but ain't surprised. Who is with you?" he said when he observed he was with a beautiful woman and she looked familiar.
"Meet Sofi Larson, the only daughter of the famous hotelier in the Philippines." Gregory was proud to introduce the lady he was with.
"Well, I am glad that you two are compatible and I can see that you get along with each other," he commented.
"Of course. Who wouldn't want a very attractive and intelligent woman like Sofi?" Gregory asked.
"Yeah, I support you on that. I do not want to be called a bad friend for one thing that is so easy to do. Keep it up, dude!" he teases Gregory.
He had a nice, short conversation with them both. He decided to cut it off when he noticed multiple missed calls from an unknown number. It might be urgent that someone is calling him at these late hours while he was in the western country. He goes straight to his room and checks his messages. He dialed Aria's phone, but it was no longer reachable. He opted to try calling the stranger's phone number to check who it was.
