“Stop her now!”
The order tore right after me as I ran through the trees, my heart hammering uncontrollably in my chest
I had to free myself,
I owed this to myself
My cloak snagged on a tree branch, ripping it open like an old wound but I couldn’t slow down for any reason
If I looked back, I’d freeze and if that happened, I’d be pulled right back into the packhouse and humiliated afresh while Damon looked on like I meant absolutely nothing at all to him or the universe.
The memory I have been fighting all night burned through me
I just couldn’t afford to go back especially not after what Damon had done to me, not after the public humiliation
The forest was alive, whispering and groaning like it understood all I was feeling
it welcomed me with sound snapping twigs, branches pulling my hair as I ran past Blackthorn Stone, I heard my own ragging breath and the distant growl of wolves approaching
“Aria!!” someone called behind me
“You won’t make it past the border, little wolf!”
The voices were close now
I ran further, my steps echoing in the damp soil. My legs felt weak but desperation somehow fueled my muscles despite the pain in my chest
Finally… the Moonclaw stone flashed past me, I stumbled forward running past the invisible line.
Finally…Neutral territory
Relief and fear washed over me, as the cold air slapped me hard on the face, over here, there were no pack laws to protect me
I could be haunted here…prey
Leaves rustled behind
My head snapped towards the direction of the sound instantly
“Oh, weak wolf, why run away from your friend? Now that’s not fair, is it?” a dry laugh
My heart dropped as a shadow emerged from the trees, amber glowing eyes and a smirk I could recognize even from my sleep.
Marina. Damon’s late Beta’s daughter
“You?” My fists curled into a fist beside me as my nose flared, but at the same time my whole body trembled. “You followed me?”
Her shoulders shook as she let out a long manic laugh. “Oh, don’t flatter yourself , what do you mean ? This was nothing but a fun hunt.”
Just then a branch snapped beside me as another figure emerged, taller amd broader with a scar that scared me for me years.
Alpha’s Zed soldier
My knuckles whitened
“Neutral territory wasn’t the right choice for you, little wolf.” He sneered at me. “Here, no one saves you,’
A lump formed in my throat as I slowly stepped back, my cloak dragging through the mud. “Stay the hell away… from me”
Tilting her her head, her mouther stretching wider than it should, she took slow steps towards me
“Now that’s the issue, Damon already rejected you…” I shifted my gaze not wanting to relive the moment again. “Yourbloodline is a threat to me … to us, so we have to end you before you find out what you really are.”
My lips parted but no words came out
My bloodline? What was she talking about?
“uh-huh, I do hope you understand, Aria” her lips curving downward with compassion but the smirk lurking by the edges of her lips gave her away
I had to stay alive to do my findings
I turned towards the only I could find as I bolted as fast my legs could carry me
Roots clawed at my ankle as leaves slapped on my face, but in was more bothered about the footsteps thundering behind me ‘
“Yes, run little Luna, make this super fun for me.” Marina’s voice sliced through my thoughts
“You’ll be ours once we’ve had our fill.”
A loud howl rose somewhere close to her, my legs almost gave up there and then but I could afford it to, I didn’t stop
“Alright, now come here.” The soldier snarled at me suddenly, his fingers brushing my cloak
“No!!” I screamed, freeing myself. My body slammed right into a tree
Pain instantly shot through my entire body, but I forced myself up I had to keep going
Just then, another set of glowing eyes appeared right in front of me
I was trapped
My breath ragged as my chest rose and fell hard. I could almost hear my own blood rushing
“Nowhere left to run to now, girl,” Marina said in a low voice, walking towards me, her smile never leaving her lips. “Poor you, Aria, you were born weak and now you’re about to die weak…”
Tears began to burn my eyes, and my legs trembled
This was how it ended for me, eventually, weak, humiliated, and broken
Accepting my fate, I shut my eyes, anticipating whatever they had planned out for me
Just then, a whistle shot through the night
My eyes snapped open
First, the soldier staggered back, a dagger buried deep in his shoulders, as his snarl twisted into a painful scream
“What…What’s happening now?” Marina stammered, dragging me along as she turned to flee the scene
Too late
A figure dropped from the trees, and just like before
Another grunt….. the soldier collapsed
The stranger straightened his shoulders. As he walked towards us, I noticed the glow of his eyes, but it wasn’t one I was used to, this wasn’t the wolf amber…it was something so different, I couldn’t place it
“Let her go!” he roared into the night
Marina hissed, taking a step back. “And who the hell are you?”
He didn’t speak further; instead, he moved towards us, pulling me away from Marina’s grip . he moved between us
My heart raced
The stranger looked back at me.
“If you want to live, this is your chance.”
My mouth opened, but still I found no words, I just stood there unable to process anything.
He turned back to Marina, his blade still glistening in his hands as Marina’s breath flared, ready to pull me back to her
But the he blocked her way
“You’ll have to go through me first.”
