Chapter 4

2125 Words
Caroline’s POV: What the f**k was that? She couldn’t not understand what happened just now. The only thing that was clear was that Zatracení knew about her magic being unlocked, and that she knew how to use it. She was f****d. There was no escape now. Not even a faint shimmer of hope remained. She had now condemned not only herself but Helen to confinement until they became mindless zombies. No will of their own, no sense of self, nothing but empty shells waiting on him. The thought of him touching her in any way repulsed her in a way she couldn’t describe. What was up with Spálený though? Why had he reacted the way he did when Zatraceni touched her. And what was up with the fake caring of her? He couldn’t possibly actually care about her. Could he? Putting her head in her hands she tried to figure out why these vampires were acting this way. Little over two months ago she was living peacefully in her town. One night while out walking on the trails by her house a sudden darkness descended on her. Next thing she knows is that she awakens in this room. Her dog, Stevers, is nowhere to be found and she’s surrounded by vampires. She's told by an exasperated female servant that she was brought here due to her high potential for magic and that in two months or so she will forget her previous life and be happy here. To emphasize her point she pointed in the direction of the other women that had been enthralled already. Asking around discreetly she found out alot more about what was really going on. Surprisingly she found she could actually feel her magic (once it was pointed out to her) and within one month she was successful in unlocking it. Being as careful as she could she practiced it every chance she got. Knowing that her ability to wield magic was her ace in getting out of this horrid castle made for great motivation. So she practiced. She started trying to lift things with her magic at first. Then slowly she found using key words with a focused intention could make things happen. Smuggling ingredients out of the kitchen or using loose threads she tried to master everything she had ever heard of and what spells she overheard from the servants talking. It had been difficult but the effort had paid off and she could freely use her magic for the most part. Two weeks ago Helen was brought into the castle much in the same way Caroline was. They were from neighboring towns so Caroline was able to get a bit of news. She, apparently, was on a lot of missing person’s posters and her boyfriend Klaus was desperately searching for her. Even more determined to get back to him and her sister she started helping Helen to unlock and master her magic. They had just finally managed to unlock her powers three nights ago. Caroline had been observing the servants the whole time she had been a captive and even bribed a few with news of the outside world with a few rings she had on her to learn about the supply tunnel that only servants have access to. That was when she started planning her escape. She had been so careful and had everything planned out perfectly. How could he have known what she was up to? Sighing she sat down on the edge of the bed and stared out at the ocean. Her long blonde hair fell over her shoulder as she watched the waves crash onto the rocks below. The sound was soothing as the storm clouds continued to gather on the horizon. Tears streamed down her face as she finally admitted defeat all Caroline could do was wait for her to be taken. In thirty-six hours she would cease to exist as herself. Twenty-three years that's all she had been allowed to live and for what to end up like this. Frustration welled up in her as she watched the sun reach its peak and slowly set. The female servant came and left with lunch and then again with dinner. No matter how many times she tried to start up a conversation Caroline only looked out the window to watch the waves crash against the shore. Finally exhaustion overwhelmed her and she fell into a fitful sleep full of fragments of a broken song and a frightful battlefield of some sort. Zatracení POV: That night when it was well past midnight a knock on Zatracení’s door interrupted his work. Leaning back in his chair welcoming the break from the pile of paperwork he told whoever it was to enter. Odporný walked in and quickly behind him. Bowing his head he handed over a small stack of papers. “You have results so quickly?” Nodding Odporný stood with his hands clasped behind him waiting for him to finish reading through the papers. Zatracení leafed through the papers but stopped half way through “What is this?” Zatracení was confused. What he was reading didn’t make any sense. “This can’t be because they went extinct hundreds of years ago, I made sure of that myself.” “Well my Lord it looks like you missed one. The blood doesn’t lie. It’s a good thing you never fed from her.” Odporný stated while tugging at a loose thread on his sleeve. “How did you find this out?” Zatracení asked. “She has a sister. Her genes are weaker or we would have sensed her magic potential as well.” Sighing in frustration Zatracení stared at the DNA test. A sire n. Well that explains everything from my and Spálený’s reaction. Her Siren blood must have been triggered when she unlocked her magic last month. “Are you still planning on doing the ritual with her?” “Yes, I have to, at this point I'm not the only one getting affected by her. If I don't enthrall her, her Siren call will entrance everyone in the castle.” “Everyone in the castle? Who else has been affected?” Odporný asked with concern, lacing his voice. Zatracení understood that concern very well. A siren was dangerous to vampires, extremely dangerous. “Spálený was affected a few hours after I dismissed you. Yes, everyone that can feel sextual attraction will be affected.” He explained while thumbing through the rest of the papers to see if she had any other surprise waiting for him. “Well that leaves me and a few guards, maybe a couple of the servants out then.” He said trying to think of anyone else who was ace. “Perfect then until the ritual tomorrow night you and those guards will be the only ones allowed near her. See if you can find those servants to help out if you feel you need to put more eyes on her. Spálený wasn’t in her room for more than five minutes before getting affected.” Zatracení explained seeing Odporny ́'s mouth open to object. “I can’t take any chances with her. I have to enthrall her. With her mixed blood she will survive birthing my heirs more so than any other woman in my harem.” “Oh sure this has nothing to do with her effect on you and your desire to possess her right?” Odporný replied with flippancy. His tone was borderline disrespectful. Hissing at the insolence Zatracení stood up so fast his chair fell backwards. Fangs protruding with fury written all over his face he stomped over to Odporný and grabbed him by his collar, throwing him backwards with enough force to buckle his doors. Odporný slammed his head against the doors and slid down to the floor. He looked dazed and Zatracení watched as he touched the back of his head to check for blood. Zatracení felt uncontrollable rage towards his friend. How dare he insinuate that he was not in full control of himself because of some human. She may have siren blood but that didn’t make her full blood and capable of controlling that side of herself yet. There was no way he had fallen under her control. “What the actual f**k?” he said trying to slowly get to his feet Zatracení eyes glowed red with rage still. “She is not affecting me and to say that my feelings or actions are being controlled by a mere human is the last insult I will tolerate from you.” He hissed. “You don’t think she's affecting you? What do you call this? You threw me against the door. I’m one of your closest friends and it looks like you are about to rip my throat out all because I lightly mentioned you are obsessed with her.” Staggering to his feet Odporný made his way to the chair closest to him and slumped in it. The world was spinning and he knew he probably had a slight concussion. Once he was done here he would go feed to heal himself. “She is affecting you. You never would have attacked me just now if she wasn’t. She needs to die.” A warning growl from The Vampire Lord made him quickly lower his gaze and try a different tactic. “Ok not die; but you need to cure yourself from her influence at the least.” Leaning back he covered his eyes with his hand trying to stop the queasiness from over taking him. His eyes slowly returned to his normal piercing blue as Zatacení realized what he had done. He had hurt one of his oldest friends and recognized the signs of a concussion in him. Picking up a chair that had been knocked down he dragged it in front of Odporný and sat across from him. “I’m sorry my friend. I know you are right. I will keep my distance from her till the ceremony tomorrow night. I won't let my emotions overcome me like this again.” Looking around the room he flinched at the destruction he didn’t even realize he had caused. The doors were cracked, a side table was shattered, and the rugs were all messed up. Guilt swelled up inside “Go get yourself healed up my friend and I am sorry this shouldn’t have happened.” Standing up slowly Odporný bowed and left the room to the nearest feeder's room. Leaning forward and putting his head in his hands Zatacení sighed and started thinking. The revelation of Caroline having siren blood made everything about her make sense. Sirens were creatures that lured in everyone that felt sextual attraction regardless of gender or species. For vampires, sirens had a unique effect. If a vampire is around a siren that has activated her powers for too long they will be enthralled by that siren. The vampire will lose all sense of self and only live for that siren, never knowing peace if they are away from them for too long. That was why Zatacení led a war against the sirens and exterminated them over a hundred years ago. Their power was useful but the risk wasn’t worth the chance of being able to use the sirens abilities for themselves typically. But the thought of an heir of his with the siren’s abilities was too tempting of an opportunity to pass up. Her siren blood does pose a risk but with the necessary precautions taken he can limit the effects until he can enthrall her. If a vampire is able to enthrall a siren before they enthrall the vampire then their powers will be at the vampires command. That was something he was very much looking forward to. He would finally be able to over power those pesky wolves and enslave all the humans in his territory. Just thinking of the possible future made him more excited than he had been in centuries. As soon as Caroline was pregnant Zatracení planned to end the fight for the heirship. For what other child could remotely come close to a siren bred heir? What to do with the other children was easy enough. Either he will kill them all so they would not be a threat to Caroline’s child or lock their powers so that his heir can use them as emissaries to other Vampire Lords. It will just depend on each child’s usefulness. With a smile he called in the exasperated servant to yet again clean up his room. Chuckling at the servants huffing over every splinter and their dismay at the state of the doors he finished his work for the night.
