The Vampire Lord and the Siren

Chapter 11

Caroline’s POV:

Why is he asking that all of a sudden? “Of course I remember how we met.” She said, rolling her eyes. “It was…Ummm…hmmm It was at the Barrel right?” She wrinkled her forehead in concern as she tried to think. She was so sure she remembered but couldn’t exactly recall. Pain exploded in her head the more she tried to recall. Rubbing her temples she groaned out in pain. Klaus rushed over to her side and handed her a glass of water.

“Here take some sips, it will help.” He rubbed her back as she sipped the cool water. The headache started to fade just as quickly as it came on. Why did I get such an intense headache like that? Just from trying to remember. “Ow” the pain flashed back into her head. Groaning she lowered her head onto the table as her fingers rubbed circles on her temples. “OK. I don’t think you should try and remember that. If it’s causing you so much pain let's not think about that.” Klaus said with concern heavy in his voice. She could tell he was frowning slightly based on the tone he used. She nodded her head slightly in agreement as the pain started to recede again. Lifting her head up she looked at him and smiled faintly in gratitude. “I’m ok now let's finish eating before the pizza gets any colder.”

“Alright.” Klaus replied as he went to sit down again. “You gonna be ok? He inquired before taking a bite of the now cold pizza.

“I guess so. She said with a shrug. “I mean apparently I have gaps in my memory for some reason and I get headaches if I try to recall the missing memories.” Sighing she grabbed a slice and started eating while pondering why this is happening. “Other than that I’m doing ok. I’m just tired. Really tired.”

“Well once we are done eating we can go to bed ok?” He asked while typing on his phone.

“Who are you texting?” She inquired staring pointedly at his phone.

“Oh I'm just texting Rich to see if he can get in contact with a witch willing to help. With the vampires tracking you to that town and now these headaches and memory loss I wanna see if there’s a magical solution.”

Nodding in agreement “That makes sense and a good idea. I would like to get to the bottom of the memory issues too.” His phone chimed after a few minutes had passed and he checked it. Looking at him it was obviously good news.

“Well this is good news. Rich says he contacted one earlier this morning when I first called him. Apparently he found one that specializes in dealing with vampires and their magic.” He explained while texting back.

“Oh? That is good news. Does he think the witch can help with my memories or atleast know the cause?” His phone chimed again with Rich’s reply.

“Uhhh yeah it looks like the witch Tristian can help. And it looks like he might be able to help you with your magic too since you had to teach yourself.” Klaus said while finishing up his reply.

“That’s a relief, what time are we meeting up with them tomorrow?” Caroline inquired while finishing up her last few bites. She wiped her mouth with a napkin and started clearing the plates. The phone chimed once more as Klaus checked it she finished cleaning up and made sure Stevers had food and water out for the night.

“Yeah, looks like they will be ready for us at Rich’s house around noon. We are about 2 hours away so we should leave no later than 10 a.m. tomorrow. Does that sound ok?” He asked, looking up at her.

Yeah since it’s 8 now that will be plenty of time to sleep. Let’s go to bed now ok?”

“I'll be there in a second. I just want to confirm with Rich. Go ahead and get ready.” He replied while finishing up his text. She went to the bathroom and brushed her teeth and started getting ready for bed. By the time she was done she saw Klaus in his pajamas plugging his phone in and pulling out his toiletries bag. “All set?” She nodded and started rummaging in her bag for her pajamas while he went to brush his teeth. Changing quickly she went over and gave Stevers some love. He was wagging his tail and trying to lick her face.

She had missed the pup so much in the last 2 months that she didn’t want to be away from him. Scratching behind his ears Caroline thought about everything that happened to her. Tears started to course down her cheeks. It was all just too much. Everything crashed down on her at once. All the things she had shoved aside and refused to process till later broke through her defenses. Her kidnapping, the constant threat of the vampires, the enthrallment and mating rituals, her escape, finding out the vampires were tracking her, and now knowing she's going to have to shed her whole identity and take on a whole new one was the final straw. Klaus came out and rushed to her side when he saw her crying. “Hey, what's wrong?” He said while pulling her into his arms and lap cuddling her close.

“I dunno, it's just too much to handle. Everything is just so overwhelming right now.” Stevers whimpered while trying to inch closer to her. Her shoulders shaked as she sobbed out all the repressed emotions she had held in for the last 2 months.

“Shhhh. Shhh. It’s ok now you are safe.” Klaus crooned in her ear. Finally exhausting all of her tears she clung to him still shaking slightly with now tearless sobs. Picking her up Klaus carried her to the king size bed and laid her down gently. He tucked her in carefully and turned off the light. A dip at the foot of the bed and some whines announced Stevers climbing up as well. Klaus climbed into his side of the bed and wrapped his arms around her pulling her close to his chest. Closing her eyes she allowed herself to feel safe for the first time in a long time as she drifted off to sleep.
