Dark Obsession: The Billionaire's Possession

The Book Launch

Episode 14: The Book Launch

One month later, my book was on shelves.

Contracts and Second Chances

The cover was simple. A coffee cup and two rings.

Adrian insisted on coming to the book launch with me. Even with his arm still in a sling.

"You don’t have to," I said, fixing his tie.

"I do," he said. "I’m the inspiration, remember?"

The bookstore was full. People I didn’t know were holding my book. Asking me to sign it.

A girl came up to me, crying.

"Your book saved me," she said. "I was in a fake relationship too. For money. Reading you made me leave."

I hugged her and cried too.

Adrian watched from the side, arms crossed. Proud.

After, we went home. Quiet.

"You okay?" he asked.

"I’m overwhelmed," I admitted. "And happy. And scared."

"Of what?"

"That this is too good to be true."

Adrian pulled me onto his lap on the couch. Careful of his arm.

"Amara," he said. "The contract is gone. But I’m not. I’m choosing this. Every day. Even on days when the toast is burnt."

I laughed into his shirt.

My phone buzzed. Email from my editor.

Subject: We want book 2.

I showed Adrian.

He grinned. "Looks like we’re not done writing our story yet."

That night we stayed up late. Not writing. Just talking.

"Book 2," I said. "What’s it about?"

"Us," Adrian said simply. "The part after the contract. The part where we’re just... married."

I rested my head on his shoulder. His sling was off now. He was healing.

"Do you think people will read it?" I whispered.

"They will," he said. "Because it’s true. And people are tired of fake."

We fell asleep like that. On the couch. My book tour schedule on the table and his hand in mine.

The next morning, Amara’s mom was already in the kitchen.

"I saw your book at the market," she said, beaming. "They put it beside the bestsellers."

My heart swelled.

Adrian came in, kissed my forehead, and stole toast from my plate.

"Proud of you, author," he said.

And for the first time in a long time, I believed it.

Chapter 2 of our life was starting. And this time, there was no contract. Just us.
