Thomas: Escape the Future

970 Words
I held onto Sela as we ran, and as we drove away in a cloud of dust from the home I had shared with Dash, I felt utter guilt and heartache at leaving him behind. How could this have happened? How could I not see what we had been all along? I felt the power from Kokabiel, just as surely as I felt it from Dash as he faced him down in the small living room of our home. I felt the power welling inside of myself as surely as I felt it growing inside Sela. These powers, dangerous and foreign, were nothing less than divine. Uriel had tried to shield us from this, and yet we had been drawn to one another inexplicably in the aftermath of his demise. Was it Conner who had taken his life? Conner, whom I had believed I had doomed to death as I ran from the fire and the collapse a year ago? I knew the only place we would find answers, and the only place where we would be safe was the home that Uriel had provided for us all those long years ago. "I know where we can go. There's a house and a room..." The room at the end of time. It would shield us from Kokabiel, and he would never find them there, of that I was certain. We entered the home in fear, slamming the door shut behind us. From the moment I turned around to face the place, I had only left hours ago, however, I knew that we weren't alone. "Tomiel. Who is your beautiful friend?" The deep voice called from the shadows, and I recognized it instantly. Samael. The first of the boys to leave the home. The one who had hated Uriel the most. What business did he have in our father's house, so long after cursing him to die alone? "What do you want? I don't have time for your games." He appeared almost out of thin air, stepping forward as the dim light illuminated him. He was dressed head to toe in black, and his eyes mirrored his clothing with a depth of darkness I had only seen once before: in Kokabiel's eyes. Uriel, the old fool, had tried to save both Angels and Demons alike. "I have time for you, Tomiel. And I have time for the Architect by your side." There was a threat in his words that Sela felt as surely as I did. She stepped closer to me in her fear, but I could see a glowing blue fire ignite all over her body as she did so. She was ready for a fight, and at that moment I knew I had to be as well. I could not fear what I was, for I knew it as soon as I laid eyes on the photographs of the winged boys in their demise. I knew that we had been spared that fate, and I was ready to fight for my life and for Sela's. "Sela." The word was a warning, and she stepped away from me as I closed my eyes and allowed her flame to ignite my own. We stood together against Samael, and he looked worried for the first time since facing us down in the foyer of our old home. "You don't know what you're doing Tomiel. You have no idea of the death and destruction she is capable of. The Architect can rewrite our entire existence. She can weave the story of time in a way so that none of us ever exist." I didn't care what Sela was, I only knew that I loved her, and I had to do everything I could to protect her from this. "You can't have her. You'll have to kill me first, Samael." He smiled his wicked smile, and I knew it was time to put my money where my mouth was as he came at us with a battle cry that shook the very foundations of the house. Sela and I moved as one against him, using our wings and our flames alike in our battle against the demon that wanted us dead. The battle raged on, and the house was the only victim in those first moments, with walls and doors torn asunder, and the furniture splintered and ruined beneath of battered bodies. As we gained the upper hand, a flaming black sword sliced through the air between us, separating Sela and me from Samael as he lay on the ground covered in his own blood. I turned to see Archon, another of the hellish boys that Uriel tried to save. He held in his hand a sword of demonic power that I knew would surely be our downfall. We were no match for this. I stepped in front of Sela, determined to protect her from our certain end. "Tomiel! You will not win this war! Selaphiel belongs to us!" He lifted the sword and I prepared for the pain that would follow. My wings bristled and cocooned around us in a desperate attempt to save us from the end. But it was all for naught because Dashiel had arrived on white wings and blue flames, and his energy was greater than anything I had ever felt before. Archon and Samael did not wait for their annihilation, instead, he fled into the night as Dashiel embraced us both. "Are you hurt? Is there anyone else here?" He took charge immediately, and I was filled with pride at watching the former timid child become a man in front of my eyes. He was power, perfected, and yet as he looked at my love with eyes filled with desire, I felt a fear that I would lose him to the darkness as well. All because of Sela.
