„So, lets get this done Miss Stone.“ Officer Snow put a cup of cafe on the desk in front of me and set opposite of me with his dictating machine and a block with a pen.
First when we arrived to the police station, they took my personals and put me in a questioning room. It was a small room with only a desk and two chairs in it. Dark as the night and on the side, there was a disposable mirror, wich was giving a bit light in the room. Officer Snow told me to sit down and he will be back as soon as possible, but it took at last the whole night for him to come back.
Wonderful.
As if I was dump or something and not understanding what they were doing.
In all the Crime-Movies they let the suspicious Character alone in the questioning room for many hours to make them go crazy and loose the concentration, so they wont lie easily to the officers. And this way, they would be exhausted to fabricate a story of there own. Surly Officer Snow and Officer Peterson were standing the whole night behind the disposable mirror and watching every move I made. As I was waiting for them to come and speak to me, I made a call, before my phone was going to die. I called my mom and told her everything. I was exhausted from this two last days and everything was getting to hard form me and I needed her. I did not want to call her or make her worried, but this situation was getting really worse for me. I mean, I was in a questioning room, still trying to find out how I could end in this situation. And she needed to know that. She was my mom.
My mom picked up the call immediately and started to tell me about how wonderful the area was, wich she was leaving now. And that she was missing me and happy that I called her that soon. At first I did know what to say anything and ruin her mood. Okay. I was scary, she would also believe I was a murder. But than I took a deep breath and started explain her everything from the beginning. She was quit at first but as soon as she asked for the name of the dead founded girl again, I got a strange feeling as if she knew her. As if the incident with the picture was not just a coincidence. She got nervous and told me that she was on her way and hang up the call directly.
Wonderful.
Now I was sitting here, tiered as hell, hungry and thirsty. And my Phone died too. Thanks god, the Officer brought me a cafe to go.
„What time is it?“ I asked and took a sip of the cafe. The warm of the cafe felt so good.
„Its 8:30 a.m.“ the Officer looked on his watch and opened his block.
„May I?“ He asked before he turned the dictating machine on. I nodded my head and looked down to my cup.
„I need words, miss Stone.“ He said annoyed. I was to exhausted to think about the fact, that the dictating machine could not my facial experience.
„Yes.“ I bit my tongue and replay.
„So, Miss Stone, how long are you in Greenwood?“ He started to questioning and looked at me sharply.
„For only two days?“ I chuckled ironically and put my hands on the cup, cause it was getting a bit cold.
„Isn‘t it strange, that the corpse just bob up, as soon as you came to this city?“ He started to chuckle too, but it was more posed.
„It is.“ I kept my answer short and took a sip of the cafe again.
„What did you say yesterday? From where did you know Joanna Audley?“ He was speaking like it was a fact, that I knew her. I did not say something like that. It was obviously a trick.
Wonderful.
„I did not knew her. The first time I heard about her was when I arrived and saw the posters everywhere.“ I made clear and looked at him seriously.
He looked in my eye, trying to find out if I was telling the truth or not and than he fixed his eyes at my fingers. Well, he is a Officers maybe he knew some tic people made, when they were lying . But I knew I was saying the truth, so I did not care. After a while he started to write something in his block.
„Where were you the day before Joanna Audleys dead body got found? I need a blow-by-blow description till the point you got to bed.“ He explained and put the pan away, when he was finish writing in his block. Officer Snow crossed the arms on his chest and looked at me with all his concentration.
„Okay … Well, it was my first day on the university. So I got up when I heard my alarm. I took a bath and dressed up. That I got to the University. I had my first lectures. In the free period I was with my roommate in the cafeteria and we drank a cafe. Well, till than everything was normal.“ I leaned back in my chair. „In the cafeteria I got to know that Joanna Audley had a picture of me. Because of it her whole clique was questioning who I was and if I had something to do with her disappearance.“ I added nervously and stopped as Officer Snow leaned in.
„Well, well.“ He just said.
I rolled my eyes and moved on, trying not to get interrupted or the nervousness take again over me.
„It was to much for me, because Ace Adems was fearing the s**t out of me and my head started to spin around. I did not expect something like that on my first day. I got back in my dorm room and took a painkiller. After that I fall asleep. Ace came and wanted to talk to me. Oh stop - That was not fully true. He threatened me, if he find out I did something to his cousin he will make me suffer.“ I said the last part with a posed smile. Officer Snows eyes were fixed on me and he rolled his eyes not finding it funny at all.
„So Ace Adems did not believe you?“ He asked with a serious mine.
„Are you joking? You don‘t have to say that but I am sure, he called in the police station.“ I told him and crossed my armes pissed of. I had to think about the situation in the hallway, when Ace interrupt my lecture.
„Well, what happened than on this day?“ He questioned.
„I wanted to sleep when he left. But my roommate told me there was a party, so we went there. But I did not have fun, because of her friend and I decided to go back to the dorm. Well, Ace Adems maintained to drove me back and when we got there I went straight to my room, but I never reached it, because the lift stopped and I was trapped there the whole night till morning 10 a.m.“ I moved on and let go a deep breath. This was sounding like a movie. Officer Snow is never going to believe it and the thought of it was making me even more nervous.
„The lift stopped?“ Officer Snow was looking at me as if I was telling him some fairy tale story. He put his hand on his neck and rub it in disbelief.
Wonderful. Like I said.
„Yeah. The lift stopped.“ I rolled my eyes. „And if it was not enough I was trapped the whole night with Ace.“ I added and bit my tongue when the memory‘s started to play in my head. I could see him in front of me. Damn it. It was not the time to think about him.
„Ace was with you?“ He stopped to rub his neck and looked at me with big eyes. „So he can reassure your story?“ He asked.
„Well, he could. But he surly love the fact, that now the police station ist after me.“ I made a pissed off face and crossed my arms. Officer Snow was looking at me confused not knowing what to say.
He did not need to say anything, because his phone started to rang and he stood up and leaved the room, letting me alone again.
Wonderful.
That was a great questioning. He did not believe anything surly. God, when will this end? I put my head on the desk and closed my eyes for a moment to rest, but I was so tiered that I fell into sleep.
When I heard someone open the door, I flinched in shock and looked around. Officer Snow moved in and looked at me confused. He took a deep breath and stopped in front of me. He did not say anything. He was just gaping at me. Nonstop. As if I was a ghost.
What just happened? Why is he gaping at me like that?
„Ehm … everything okay?“ I tried to break this uncomfortable silence and put my hands nervous to my sides.
„You … you can go now. You are free to go. Your parents are waiting for you outside.“ He said in a deep yet soft voice. God, did he said parents!?
„P-Parents?“ I questioned in shock.
„Yes. Parents.“ He said pitiful.
I wanted to stand up and move out. Just like I wanted from the first second when I got in this room but my feet’s did not want to react. I was frozen on my place. He said, my parent were waiting for me outside. My parents. He was not talking just about my mom. He was talking about my mom and the guy everyone else would call a dad.
„Miss Stone? You can go.“ Officer Snow replayed and opened the door for me gesticulating me to leave. I bit my tongue and stand up from my chair slowly. When I was out of the room I turned around and looked a last time to him. He nodded at me and closed the door.
I was not ready to meet this guy and for god seek I did not know what he was doing here. Yet, I was on my way outside to finally met the man who never wanted me.
