BELLA'S POV — THE BREAKING POINT
The air in the dungeon thickened.
Not slowly.
Not gently.
But like something unseen had wrapped its hands around the space and squeezed.
Bella’s breath came in sharp, uneven pulls as the flames danced wildly across her skin, no longer flickering… but growing.
“I can’t control it…” she whispered, panic rising in her chest.
Across the bars, Cain didn’t move.
Didn’t blink.
Didn’t breathe.
His golden eyes were locked onto her like she was something dangerous—
—or something impossible.
“You’re lying,” he said, his voice low and steady, but there was tension beneath it now.
“You’ve always been hiding something.”
Bella shook her head weakly.
“I don’t even understand what’s happening—”
A sudden surge of heat exploded outward.
The chains bolted into the wall behind her glowed red.
Then—
SNAP.
They shattered.
Bella gasped, falling forward onto her hands as the flames surged higher, forming around her like a storm.
“No… no, no, no—”
Stop fighting it.
The voice was louder now.
Stronger.
Closer.
You are not weak.
“I don’t want this!” she cried.
You were never given a choice.
The fire roared.
CAIN'S POV - THE TRUTH HE REFUSED
This wasn’t possible.
It couldn’t be.
Cain took a slow step back as the heat intensified, his instincts screaming at him
—danger, threat, power—
—but something deeper clawed at his chest.
Recognition.
“No…” he muttered.
The mark on his chest burned suddenly.
Violently.
He sucked in a sharp breath, his hand instinctively pressing against it.
The curse.
Reacting.
To her.
His eyes snapped back to Bella—
—to the flames—
—to the wings forming behind her in blazing arcs of fire.
“No,” he said again, louder this time.
“You don’t get to be her.”
Bella looked up at him, her eyes glowing—bright orange, streaked with deep red, alive with something ancient.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about—”
“Yes, you do!” Cain snapped, his composure cracking.
“You’ve always known!”
“That’s not true!”
“Then explain this!” he roared, gesturing at the inferno surrounding her.
Bella opened her mouth—
—but no words came.
Because she couldn’t explain it.
She didn’t understand it.
And that terrified her more than anything.
BELLA'S POV - THE VISION
Suddenly—
Everything stopped.
The flames froze midair.
The world went silent.
And Bella—
Fell.
Not physically.
But somewhere else.
She stood in a field of ash.
The sky above her burned gold and crimson, endless and suffocating.
In front of her—
A woman.
Tall.
Radiant.
Terrifyingly beautiful.
Her hair flowed like liquid fire, her eyes ancient and knowing.
Bella’s breath caught.
“…Mom?”
The woman smiled softly.
“Hello, my little flame.”
Tears instantly filled Bella’s eyes.
“I—I thought you were gone…”
“I am,” Adriana said gently.
“But not entirely.”
Bella shook her head, overwhelmed.
“I don’t understand any of this… why is this happening to me?”
Adriana stepped closer, her presence warm, powerful, unshakable.
“Because it is time.”
Bella’s voice trembled. “Time for what?”
Adriana reached out, placing a hand over Bella’s heart.
And suddenly—
Visions flooded her mind.
Fire consuming armies.
A kingdom drowning beneath rising tides.
A man with blue and gold eyes standing in the middle of chaos—
watching her.
Waiting for her.
Bella gasped, stumbling back.
“Who is that—?”
“Your equal,” Adriana said.
“Your fate.”
Bella shook her head.
“No… no, I don’t want this… I don’t want any of it!”
Adriana’s expression softened, but her voice remained firm.
“You don’t get to run from what you are.”
The flames around them rose higher.
“You are the last Phoenix.”
Bella’s chest tightened.
“And the first of something far greater.”
TIANLONG'S POV - THE PULL
He couldn’t ignore it anymore.
Tianlong stood abruptly, the storm outside his chambers now matching the unrest inside him.
The ocean churned violently, waves crashing harder, faster—as if responding to something unseen.
Or someone.
“That wasn’t normal,” Kael said from the doorway, his tone cautious now.
Tianlong didn’t answer immediately.
His gaze was distant.
Focused on something far beyond the walls.
“I felt it again,” he said finally.
Kael frowned. “Felt what?”
Tianlong’s jaw tightened slightly.
“Fire.”
Kael blinked. “You control water.”
Tianlong looked at him then—sharp, intense.
“Exactly.”
A pause.
Then—
“It’s calling me.”
The words hung heavy in the air.
Kael’s expression darkened.
“That’s not possible.”
“No,” Tianlong said quietly.
“But it’s happening.”
He turned toward the storm, lifting his hand slightly—
And the ocean responded instantly.
Water surged upward in a towering spiral, twisting violently before crashing back down.
Unstable.
Unlike him.
“I’ve never lost control like that,” Kael said carefully.
Tianlong’s voice dropped.
“I’m not losing control.”
A beat.
“I’m being pulled.”
BELLA'S POV — AWAKENING
Bella gasped as she was thrown back into her body.
The dungeon slammed back into existence around her—
The heat.
The flames.
Cain.
Everything.
She collapsed forward, her body shaking violently as the fire slowly began to recede.
Not gone.
Just… quieter.
Watching.
Waiting.
Cain stepped closer again, slower this time.
More cautious.
More uncertain.
“What did you see?” he asked.
Bella didn’t answer right away.
Her eyes were distant.
Haunted.
Then—
She looked at him.
Really looked at him.
And something inside her shifted.
“You’re going to destroy everything,” she said softly.
Cain froze.
The words hit deeper than any weapon.
His expression darkened instantly.
“You don’t get to judge me.”
“I’m not,” Bella whispered.
“I’m warning you.”
The mark on his chest burned again.
Harder.
Hotter.
More painful than ever before.
And for the first time—
Cain realized something he had refused to accept for years.
The curse…
Wasn’t waiting for his mate.
It was waiting for her.
