Chapter 4The ride back to the mansion was unbearable. Tensions rose with every mile, with every exhausted sigh from the surrounding men. Seated between them, Ian counted the minutes until they were home. The hour was late, well past sunset, when they arrived. To Ian’s surprise, he found the mansion crawling with security. For every previous guard, three more had risen beside him.
His escorts bypassed the elevator and instead led Ian to Katherine’s office. They deposited him at her door, where he sat with a platoon of men for hours. Most Ian had never laid eyes on before flitted in and out of the hallway, keeping a cautious eye on him.
