Chapter 10Before Ian left, he asked to see Mei. He expected Katherine to deny this request, but to his surprise, she agreed. They sent Ian to his room to gather his things. While packing his bag, Ian’s door opened, and Oliver shoved Mei into the room.
Mei turned on Oliver, flashing him a dirty look. Instantly, he backed off but kept Ian’s door open, leaving them semi-alone together.
Mei looked smaller with her shoulders slumped in agony. Her shell-shocked expression flooded Ian with shame, his knees weak with it.
“I’m so sorry,” he said.
“You’re sorry?”
“More than you’ll ever know.”
“It doesn’t look like it to me.” Mei’s raw emotions spilled over, vast and fiery, singing Ian from the inside out. “From where I’m standing, it seems as if all you’re doing is running away again.”
