Chapter Thirteen

595 Words
I walk into the house and noticed a peculiar smell. I walk toward it. My nose lead me right to the kitchen. I notice Janice standing over the stove. I go and stand next to her curious to see what she is cooking. I look into the pan and stare at the putrid slop. “That looks nasty.” “Just be grateful I’m making you food. Your father won’t be home until later so I took the liberty of cooking dinner.” “That looks like disgusting meat.” “It’s steak with vegetables, peppers, onions, and garlic, and it’s not disgusting.” “I’m a vegetarian.” “Well not today you aren’t. If you don’t like it then eat shit.” “How about I just don’t eat thanks.” I stomp up the stairs angrily It was 6:30 when my father came home. I heard the pounding of his footsteps as he walked up the stairs. He opened my door and peeked his head in. “Hey baby girl what’s goin on?” “Not much dad. But I’m starving. Janice made meat for dinner and I don’t want to eat it.” “Yeah she told me about that, she and Jeffrey are big meat eaters. So I brought you something.” “What is it?” He fully walks in my room and handed me a Caesar salad. “Now you won’t go hungry.” My eyes lit up. Caesar salad was my favorite. I rarely have it. “Thanks so much daddy.” “Yeah no problem kid.” My salad disappeared quickly. I wasn’t exactly full but I wasn’t exactly hungry either. I go into my nightstand drawer and pull out a package of candy; bottle caps, those were my favorite candy but my most favorite was Kit-Kats. Whenever I’m eating one it feels like heaven in my mouth. Anyway I start eating the bottle caps then I feel a cold rush of air. I turn around and see that my window was left open. I close my window then, I close the curtains. I turn back around and start to walk to my bed. In the process of turning around, I spotted Alex sitting on the edge of my bed. I start to ask him what he is doing in my room, but he cuts me off. “So I’ve been thinking…” he says. “About?” he looks at me like I’m completely stupid. “How I died.” “Well…And?” “I know for a fact I never committed suicide.” “Yeah I know you said that before.” “Well I wanted to do it once. But I didn’t do it.” “Wait. What?” “Yeah I nearly did once. But I stopped.” He says it like it’s the most natural thing in the world. “Why?” “Because it hurt!” “Like what did you do?” “I stabbed myself but my parents found me just in time.” “You didn’t do it right that’s why it hurts. Besides that was really stupid of you.” “I know.” “Why did you do it anyway?” “I don’t want to talk about it.” “Why? It might help us figure out how you died.” “It’s kind of embarrassing.” “So? Just tell me anyway. I promise I won’t hold it against you.” “Are you sure you want to know?” “Absolutely.”
