Keplar barged into Knutson’s office fifteen minutes before they were to drive to Rochester. “Wait a minute,” Knutson said. “Something different about you, never seen that s**t-eatin’ grin on your face before. Spit it out.”
Holding out his hand, “You can congratulate me now, I’m going to be a father.”
“That deserves a hug,” he said with a bear hug. “I’m so happy for you. The wife and I will have to take you two out to dinner when we get this case wrapped up.”
“I’m sure Rose would really enjoy that.” Glancing out the office windows, “Where’s Detective Cotter?”
“I sent him down to bring the car around. Gonna let him drive.”
“That means I can get a little shut-eye in the back seat. After last night, I need it.”
