613 Words

82 Kiria Belik was gone. Chetana and Kiria stood alone in the barn. The Amir looked at her with dark, skeptical eyes. Kiria didn’t know what to say. Had Belik gone back to the real world, refusing to take Chetana’s bait? Or had he somehow followed Firian’s apparition? “Belik!” Chetana called. When there was no answer, Kiria said, “I saw Firian.” Chetana’s forehead creased. “When? Where?” “He fell.” She traced his path with her hand. He was screaming. A tiny measure of relief showed in Chetana’s face. “His Sentry is gone?” “I don’t—” Belik’s big form appeared where it had before, stumbling once before righting himself. Kiria couldn’t remember ever having seen a Tanyu stumble. He was wounded or exhausted. Firian told her about his bad leg, but Kiria hadn’t noticed it in the Unreal.
