19 Kiria Kiria watched the sun set through a slim slit in the cloud cover. Only a moment, but she caught it. Rays of light shot through the falling rain, shining bright against each drop chasing down the windowpane. The beauty of it made her heart clench. And then it was gone, black as midnight. She swallowed. The light spoke of what they had all lost, and all they still had left to lose. She stood in near darkness, in a storage warehouse in Grand Market Square, larger than the tannery, with her top remaining military leaders. Chetana had come too, but no other Amir had been able to leave the palace grounds. Her group had moved as soon as word came that Tanyu had already searched the nearby building. It had been a hectic and terrifying afternoon of trusting her guards to keep her safe.
