CHAPTER FIVE This was how it felt like to die on the inside. I could feel it now as shouts and howls resounded all around me. I could feel it when the one who was to be the new Luna emerged from out of nowhere looking as beautiful as ever. It had long been decided that Raven's beauty was rivaled by none in all of the Pale moon pack. Well no one ever included me in that deduction and I did not care. But Raven had. Her piercing green eyes always looked at me with the most animosity. There were two kinds of werewolf in our pack, the one that just outright ignored my presence and would not be caught dead interacting with me. Raven championed the other group strongly. She never missed a single opportunity to taunt me and put me down in front of other wolves, not that she needed any effort. They all hated me but for some reason, it was never enough for this prideful daughter of the Artemis house and new Luna of all Pale moon packs. I was watching the scene from eyes which had lost their light. Raven's auburn air almost glowed in the full moon while her green eyes shone with their usual cunning and deception. I did not know what she had offered Dante for him to be so entrapped. I always knew that beneath all of that power and arrogance, Dante was a simple man. But simple enough to deny his own mate? "All bow!" I heard someone say or I think I heard. It did not matter as the next instant, all of Pale moon pack offered a collective howl as each head went straight to the ground. I just stared at the scene not with anger or jealousy but with an indifference so comforting, it felt like home. Everyone could bow or lose their heads, I did not care. "You there! Why are you not bowing?" Dante's voice rang out to me causing a great scene as everyone forgot to maintain their posture and just turned to look at me. The uproar was immediate, plunging the assembly into one of the most disorderly it had ever been since inception. Everyone was supposed to listen here and give their opinions in private quarters but with me involved, they could not hold back their disapproval for a second longer. "I know from the start that she was a traitor" "She is in league with the rogues" "She is the w***e of the Lycan King" "We should burn her for her treason" "The consequences of disobeying an alpha's order are harsh" "She should die and rid us all of her curse" "Yes. She should die" "What are we waiting for?" "Quick. Someone do something before she escapes" "Sabrina" it was his voice that made my heart thump. His was the most inaudible of all the voices that were raised against me but I heard his clearer as his call echoed through the chambers of my being. The feeling was unmistakable. Last night had not been a hallucination but the present was also not one. Like in my dream, his hand was intertwined with Raven's. Before I could recover my indifference, I was attacked. One malicious claw to my back was all it took to draw blood yet again. And it looked like the assailants were not done. Before any of them could make another fatal move, I saw the figure of Dante descend from the sky. His speed was so great, I could tell he was the one only by the special bond we shared. The others watched on in horror as several claws had left deep cuts on their frontman. Dante just stared at each of them, his wolf more alert and ready to protect his mate. "Lord Malakai?" one of them recognized him and the sigh of disbelief was heard from everyone. Dante looked at his subjects, clearly flustered. "Our alpha is kind. That he should give this treacherous peasant mercy is proof of his true kindness" Raven rescued him just in the nick of time. She came and put a hand on his shoulder to calm him. "Indeed he is . And his Luna is wise beyond her years" one of the others praised. "But he is wiser for choosing me" Raven bowed slightly at the congregation. It was this kind of politics that she excelled in. Everyone was blind to her true nature despite having keen sights. "But she still defiled the alpha. Shall she go unpunished?" another barked from the crowd and instantly earned a lot of cheers. "Our alpha is kind, but fear his wrath more if you are wise. He will surely deliver his judgment on the traitor" Raven spoke still clinging on to my mate. "Lord Malakai, what shall her punishment be to set a public example so that no one dares to defy the alpha of our pack in future" the people inquired. "I will announce it to my Luna and elders. The rest of you are dismissed!" Dante seemed to have broken free of his trance and his expression spoke of the storm that was brewing inside of him. I could feel his intense anger from our connection and it was not towards me at all. Although she had won over the people with her eloquence, by constantly speaking for him, she had caused the alpha to lose face. Knowing the kind of man that Dante was, she should be the one to fear his wrath and not me. She had taken too many risks this time and was bound to pay for it. "Forgive me, Lord Malakai. Spare my life, I pray" just as the last ordinary wolf had left the gathering, Raven fell flat on her face in an hysterical plea. "All is forgiven. Rise" my i***t mate fell for it. "I will not dare defy you" Raven said those words deliberately. "Sabrina, for your public defiance. You are now a personal slave to the alpha and Luna"
