Chapter 5

Lucien’s POV

Why did my mother come into my room unannounced? I don't even know what to say to her question.

“Who is human?” she repeated. “And don't you dare lie to me, Lucien”

I couldn't respond instantly, the room was silent, on my end I didn't want to respond, while on hers she was patiently waiting for my response. Then when I did not say a word she looked at Troy seeking answers, but Troy ignored her gaze by looking down.

“Would you like me to tell your father what I had just heard?” she asked breaking the silence.

“The human in question is my mate”

My mum was too stunned to speak, I looked into her eyes and all I could see was disbelief

“Mother I also can't seem to understand the whole thing but can't ignore who I have been mated to.”

“Keep shut!!! That’s not possible, there is no way a mere human can live in our world. I do not want to hear this from you or anyone else”. After saying this she left my room seemingly disoriented.

Troy left too and I was now alone.

Why does the goddess have to punish me by mating me with a human? I'd be seen as a weakling. My mind, body, and soul yearn for Elara but everything about this doesn't seem right in the eyes of the people. The empire my ancestors have built will be at stake.

I look up asking the goddess Why me? But still thanked her for granting me a mate.

The coven arranged for a meeting and I’m very sure most of the matters arising will be centered on me but I had no choice but to go since I’m taking over my father soon.

Just as I thought, everything was centered on whether I have a mate or not. One of the witches of Thaloria was called to foretell the coven's future and all she said was “A Series of wars awaits you.”

She said this looking directly at me. I was puzzled because we are at peace with other covens aside from the wolves though but there is a peaceful agreement which we've all been abiding by so I’m really confused as to why and how trouble awaits me. My mother as usual became very worried and she kept on disturbing the witch to help me out but the witches ignored her and she vanished into thin air leaving traces of dark smoke.

No one uttered a word after my father had said we all should be prepared. They all got up to leave one after the other in acceptance of fate to the witch’s prophecy.

I was left alone once again and I began to think, if I sit and fold my hands without doing a thing I might miss being with my mate for a lifetime, but if I also do something about it, I might still lose my mate. I just sat in silence with my mind doing all the work.

Elara’s POV

I got woken up by my phone's ringtone. I looked at the caller ID and it was Rose, I guess she's at the door.

I got up sluggishly from my bed because of how sleepy I was. First of all went into the bathroom to wash my face and quickly brushed my teeth before going down to open up and all through, my phone was ringing nonstop.

When I opened the door for Rose, my face was still gloomy but what awakened me fully was the smell of chicken and chips from the bag in her hand.

She came in and went straight into the kitchen placing what she had brought on the counter. “I can't believe you just woke up. Didn't you sleep at night?” Rose said while helping herself out in the kitchen.

I did not have the energy to respond to what she had just said but I just grabbed myself a plate of chicken and some chips.

We were eating in silence then Rose just had to break that silence by asking if I still go for my dance classes that she’d want to join. But truthfully it’s been two weeks since I last went to any dance class, I'd find time to go to one of these days.

“Rose please I would love it if you could accompany me to the orphanage home I was dumped in by my mother”.

I said this in hopes of receiving enthusiastic energy from Rose but instead, she was very passive about it and asked why I wanted to visit there.

“Are you coming or not?” I asked ignoring her question. I felt bad afterwards because I should not have been entitled to her accompanying me and she just asked a simple question but I got annoyed.

“Rose I’m sorry for acting out just now. I've just been having the urge to know at least something about my biological parents.” I said this while playing with the chicken on my plate and my head facing down, but she just responded calmly and said that she understands and she will accompany me there.

I looked up with joy evident in my eyes and hugged her “Sorry for being so jerky” Then I kissed her on her cheek and we both smiled and caught up with old times.

She filled me in on the new people she had met while away and how it was hard for her to blend in at first. I also told her about the strange things that have been happening to me and the hot new college student, Lucien.

At this point we were both filled in on what was happening in each other's lives and we just finished eating.

“Hmm Lucien it's a very sexy name” Rose said while she got up to clear the plates to place them into the dishwasher and she was just giving me this teasing look.

“What!!?” I responded defensively but with a smile plastered on my face. Inasmuch as I want him I don't want to openly admit to it.

I got up too but to go get dressed and I left Rose in the kitchen.

I settled for a good blue jeans with a soft comfortable black body hug top, added some accessories, I wanted to let my hair down but that didn't work cause I feel like I need a silk press or straighten it a little but I don't have that patience right now. I just did my go-to hairstyle, which is packing it in a ponytail.

I went back down seeing that Rose had already packed up some tacos for the road because it's going to be a long drive from Elkins to Charleston in West Virginia.

The orphanage was a Catholic established one. I spent five years there before I was adopted by my foster parents.

Honestly i'm trying to feel even a little bit of any emotion but I was indifferent. I just wanted to know something about my parents and I don't know why none of that was added to my file. I just hoped in the universe to guide me through this journey.

Rose and I locked up my place, then left for the road trip.
