Chapter 12

1134 Words
Elara’s POV After a series of exams, we had an hour break. I walked up to Lucien because there was no one to talk to. I sat on his desk and I was waiting for him to say something. I’m so weird, I can't even start up a conversation. I don't know if he could see through me or my thoughts because he started laughing. “Why are you laughing?” “Why do I feel like you want to talk but you don't know what to say” he gave this cocky smile, then he got up staring straight at me, “Let me guess you don't know how to start a conversation?” “I start up conversations with my best friend” I said defensively, “Elara you know that does not count, but sometimes it's a good thing though.” “Anyway..” I said trying to change the topic “How were the exams, I hope it wasn't difficult” “Nahh it was okay, not bad. Want to get some snacks?”, he asked stretching his hand out for me to take it, so I’m guessing I can't even say no. “Sure” then I took his hand, which supported me off his desk. We went to the school cafeteria to get snacks but I was still very hungry so I got some food too. After eating we resumed our class for the remaining exams of the day. Our exams lasted for a full week and Saturday was also included. I haven't spoken to Rose since and I’ve been so engrossed in my exams, I didn't care about anything else. On the last day which was on a Saturday, Lucien escorted me home like he had been doing since the beginning of the exams. It was time for him to leave and I was wondering where he lives. “Lucien, so the next time we are going to see is after the holiday?” He scratched the back of his hair, like he had no answer to my question. “I would love for us to see again, let's go out on a date tomorrow evening, I want to take you to dinner. You deserve it after this exam stress” When he mentioned the word date, my heart leaped for joy. A date with Lucien, the new hottest guy on campus. I just nodded and smiled in agreement, maybe with that, I will get to know more about him. When he left and I got in I saw my mother smiling so wide, and I know that look. “Mum why are you looking at me like that?” “Oh, you know why. So where are we going for dinner?” “Mum!! Were you eavesdropping?” “Well I just heard a little, I hope he doesn't end up like the other guy, I can't even remember his name” “Mum!!” “Fine, fine I'd leave you alone” she said, while laughing at me. But wait he never said where we were going to have dinner. Why didn't I ask, why did he not say where? Or maybe it's a surprise. I think I would wear a dress not too elegant and not too casual, so it could fit in anywhere. Later that evening I went to visit my best friend. She has every right to be mad at me and I need to make things right. I got to her door and knocked, then Rose opened the door. I was about to apologize, but she beat me to it by saying sorry. I’m surprised she is apologizing, but for what reason? She could tell my confusion from the expression on my face. “I can see you're confused as to why I apologized. You were right about other living creatures. I was helping my older brother out by cleaning up his room and in one of his books, I found one that was intriguing I decided to read it. You know he is a history student, so he has stuff like that. I haven't gone far in the book but I have something to show you. Follow me.” I was stunned, but I still followed her. When we got up she locked her room door and handed the open book to me and asked me to read the paragraph she pointed out. “The Town of Elkin, was once dreadful approximately a thousand years ago. People were killed daily, with bodies abandoned in the forest or the river, they were known as the D’aramond. Although there was a noticeable rumor of conflict between these beasts, their eyes turn red when they feast and their fangs become clearer to see. The Elkin Town was in the tragic hands of the D’Aramonds for many years, but there were more creatures out there fighting for the Elkin territory, this other creature that was dog-like was no match for the D'Aramonds, which led to the noticeable conflict between themselves. After so many years of tragic ends, we the normal beings were able to have the upper hand knowing their weaknesses, we couldn't kill them all but we could protect ourselves. Until one D’Aramond fell in love with a human, he trusted her and Catherine Lovins used it to her own advantage and killed him with a wooden stake. This filled the others with so much hate for our being, because any Vampire in sight or recognized was killed. Luckily for the town, the vampires had already fought the wolves out, so for many years we had nothing to worry about. All thanks to Catherine Lovins, the first ever human to kill a vampire in the history of Elkin town”. Wow, so it is real?! Maybe they went on to another town. But I haven't heard of any tragedy. “Maybe they're lying low?” Rose suggested. “I don't think so” “But what does this have to do with you Elara, I still do not understand” “Well, I’m going to take your advice and not think too much about any of this. I was probably just seeing things that day” I said reassuring myself. “Besides I have a date I have to prepare myself for and I will definitely need my best friend’s help.” “Who are you going with anyway and where?”, Rose asked seeming surprised “It's Lucien, but the bad part is I don't know where, we have not even exchanged contacts yet so how will I communicate with him?” The same idea I had about putting on a simple pretty dress, not too much but just right, Rose suggested it, so I believe we're on track.
