Chapter 9

Lucien's POV After a terrible evening, I woke up feeling a bit weak and I knew I needed blood. I have been eating regular meals without taking in blood and now it's telling on me. Now that I have been mated to a human, I will feel guilty feasting on human blood, I will have to stick with animal blood for a while. Not long after Lilith came in without knocking with a tray in her hands and a bowl on it. I could smell the fresh blood of a deer. I’m upset that she did not knock but I can't be mad at her cause I know fully well my mother put her up to this. I wonder what my mother threatened her with. I didn't say a word to her nor did she, but she handed the bowl to me and asked me to drink because she noticed how very pale I looked last night. Drinking it felt so refreshing, the only words I said to her were Thank you before she left my room. Today was another meeting to be held but this time for pleasantries and the organizing of a ball which was our tradition once every month to promote the peaceful coexistence between different kinds. Well, it's not all peaceful but we try and hope for the best. I can’t attend school with Elara today because of how busy my schedule is. I got out of bed, freshened up and I settled for a black top and a black free cooperate pants. Today is going to be a long day. Alphas from the four different wolf packs with their Lunas were present likewise the witches' representatives and my father the king of vampires with another vampire lord from a different group. I wonder why my father decided to divide his control. I have this strong feeling that things might change, but I don't know if it's for the better or worse. They all had collective ideas on the ball’s theme but there was no definite conclusion on what the theme was. The atmosphere was obviously filled with hate and tension but everyone is still trying to keep it calm. What bothers me is how we all can be in a room filled with people who will gladly kill us at the slightest opportunity they have but here we are sucking it all up. After a dead end, I got up uninterested and left without a word. I don't know why I feel uneasy today, subconsciously I bumped into my mother. “Sorry mother” then I held her steady from falling off her feet. “Lucien, what are you thinking of that you can't see where you're going and what did you all settle on at the meeting, also don't forget that at the ball you will be announcing your mate.” I just started to laugh, because which question will I answer first. “Mum which should I answer first” I said still laughing. She slightly hit me on my shoulder for me to stop. “Lucien, regardless you and Lilith will attend the ball together. I want you both to be the talk of that day” After she had said this she left with a huge grin on her face. I’m not comfortable with this whole thing but how can I let this woman down. I decided to take a stroll out to clear my head. I just got to know how much change has happened, different supernatural creatures cooperating for peace, but recently there has been an arising issue of disappearing vampires, no trace of them, they just vanished. I do not know why this was covered up or neglected but I will definitely relook into this. Soon after, I sensed the smell of Lilith but I acted like I didn't, so she walked closer to me and as soon as I turned, Lilith's expression portrayed stress and uneasiness but even after knowing and sensing something was up with her I continued with what brought me out. I needed a clear mind. Lilith still kept following me behind and this made me more uncomfortable. Out of irritation I stopped in my tracks and asked if there was an issue and why she kept following me. “Your mother gave an order to follow you to the designer for her to take my measurements for the ball or get any available dress at her store that suits me”. Honestly, I'm shocked at how much my mother wants her to be my mate knowing fully well we are no match. This thought brought back the fact that I am being compelled to be with who I'm not meant to be. Just to obey my mother we went to the shop to get a dress. I was so uninterested in whatever was going on, my mind was constantly drifting off to Elara. At the shop the lady there was very welcoming but awkwardly too polite. As soon as she commented on me and Lilith being a perfect match, there was an instant sting in my chest because of how much I am trying to ignore. Lilith smiled back at the designer saying thank you, coming closer to me to try to hold my hands but I clenched my fist ignoring her. The designer knew too well that it was for the ball because this was the season. I decided to sit and wait on the couch close to the entrance. “I thought you would help out in making a choice for me” Lilith said looking at me, and I'm pretty sure she wanted me to get up but I didn't. “Don’t worry, any choice is fine. I will match with whatever color you choose.” So Lilith and the designer went in and I was left alone. The peace and to be left alone that I wanted when I left the house, I'm getting it now. My mind is brainstorming on what to do and this whole mate thing. If I take the advice of Troy, it might seem weird not just for me but also for Jacqueline. It's not like we go through a portal before arriving at our world, it's just hidden. Ughhh why are my things always different? Lilith came back out settling with a green dress, then I told the designer to make a suit that complements the dress for me and someone will pick it up when it's ready. After this, we went back to the castle. Elara's POV After a long day at school, I got home freshened up, and went to Rose’s place, uninvited. I really needed to talk to her about my dreams it felt so awkwardly real. I rang the bell and her brother opened the door. “Hi, is Rose home?” he just responded by opening the door wider for me to come in, and then said she's upstairs. I got to her room door and knocked and she took ages before she opened up. “Were you still sleeping? The day is half gone and you're still in bed.” “Elara please don't tell me you came to my house to scold me,” she said while still burying her head into her pillow. I grabbed the pillow from her “No but I wanted to tell you something that's bothering me.” Finally, she sat up to listen. “I had a dream” After I had said this statement she just exclaimed “Oh no” sarcastically and returned to her sleeping position. “Hey!” I poked her on her side. “I'm being serious here it felt so real. You know that my necklace that glows I saw a lady putting it on and she was running to safety. Normally if I dream about anything I won't be able to see myself, like my arms or legs or it'll be like I'm watching something and no one knows I am there. This one I could see myself and I wasn't just watching this woman ran through me Rose, she ran.” “Maybe it's just a creative weird dream that doesn't mean anything. Please don't think too much about it. You'll see it doesn't mean anything, maybe it's the stress of wanting to know where and who your biological parents are. My love you will be fine.” After hearing this I decided to take in Rose’s words to calm my mind a bit. Then I left her to continue her sleep and went back home.
