Lucien’s POV
On my way to Elara’s place, I was quietly reciting to myself the words I would say so that I could be forgiving.
“Hi, it's me, Lucien. And before you say anything I’m sorry once again.” I sighed inwardly at my poor choice of words and I tried again
“Hi Elara, I'm deeply sorry for being a jerk the other night. Please how can I make it up to you?”
Yeah, I think that's better. I kept on repeating it till I arrived at her place.
I knocked on the door, but there was no response. So I rang the bell and waited.
Someone else came to open the door and asked who I was but I didn't respond, I only stated that I was looking for Elara.
“Well too bad Elara is not home tonight”, the boy said and he was about to shut the door but I put my foot to stop it just in time.
“If I may ask, where is she?”
“Bro why do you want to know? That's weird. You didn't say who you are or give any sort of identification, but you want to know where my sister is. That's some pretty weird crap.”
Elara’s mother luckily heard her son’s tone and she gently smacked him on the back of his head.
“You couldn’t even ask him to come in, the night is cold..”, She looked towards me after she scolded her son, “I'm sorry about that, but Elara isn't home tonight, you can come back later tomorrow”
I just nodded and thanked her, before getting off their porch.
I decided to go to the nearest gadget store that was still open, to get a phone for myself. I had no money on me so I waited for the store to be free and syrned him to get it without payment.
I needed to at least have some sort of communication with her. But since I can't meet her today, I'll get her number tomorrow.
When I left the store, to my surprise I saw Lilith waiting outside.
“What are you doing here?” she asked me with her arms folded against her chest
“How did you know I was here?” I answered her question with another question.
“So this is what you come to do. Explore this side of the world at night”
“I don't need to explore at night like you, I'm a daywalker, I can also do it during the day”, I said evidently getting irritated by her questions.
I started walking off then slid the phone into my pockets.
“Lucien! Don't walk out on me”, Lilith shouted while trying to keep up with my pace.
She finally caught up then asked me who lives in the house I visited earlier.
“Lilith have you been following me?”
“Yeah I have so start talking, because it seems to me like they know you,” she said
“You don't have any right to ask me such questions”
“Hmm sure I don't have any rights, but start talking, unless you want to hear a juicy headline of a m******e caused by a deer” she threatened
I paused in my tracks to have a good laugh “Lilith you wouldn't dare, if not you will join those alleged deer m******e bodies”
She stared me in the eyes and this time I was dead serious, I knew she wouldn't dare to do anything.
“Lucien the person staying there is your mate? Is your mate human? That is forbidden and it will never work out..”, She reached for my hands but I immediately placed my hands behind my back
“Lucien I am going to be the next vampire queen, whether you like it or not,” she said then stormed off towards the opposite direction of Thaloria.
I cared less, so I went back home without her.
My mind was still filled with thoughts on what to do. Then I remembered my father’s words, which made sense to me but still don't make much sense, because how is that going to help me?
I went back home with a heavy heart because Elara might not want to see me again.
Elara’s POV
Rose and I just had to shrug off all the sad and bad energy, because this sleepover does not need any mood swings.
I suggested we bake red velvet cupcakes since I know they always have baking ingredients at home, so I took Rose’s tablet down with me to the kitchen then picked a random adult cartoon since we both enjoy watching it. Then she brought out her recipe book that will guide us by us I mean me, because I can't bake s**t, but I'm getting better with the help of Rose.
When we were done mixing the whole kitchen was messed up, even the aprons we wore were a mess, I paused the cartoon to play some music, so I wouldn't feel the stress of cleaning.
Rose went up to have her bath while I cleaned, and truthfully she did most of the baking I was just watching a cartoon.
Her brother came into the kitchen though and he helped me out, so it was faster than expected. By the time we were done cleaning, the cake was ready. So I took it out of the oven to cool off, then I went up to Rose’s room to have my bath.
“Elara, your phone has been ringing while I was in the bathroom”
“Hmm, who could be calling me at this time of the night? I'll check later. I feel so sticky. Please I need a cloth I can wear to sleep comfortably in”
“Elara, why are you asking? You know you can take whatever clothes you want to wear from my closet.”
I just smiled then took a free nightwear shorts with a big top, then headed for the bathroom with the clothes to change in there when I'm done, because it turns out her brother isn't familiar with the words courtesy and privacy, he just barges in as he pleases.
I was in the bathroom and my phone rang again
“Elara your phone is still ringing!”, Rose shouted
“Whose calling?!”
“There is no name”, she responded
“Okay okay I'm almost done, I'll call back when I come out.”
I hurriedly had my bath, just to know who was calling at this odd hour. I got out, I oiled myself up because it can get pretty cold at night, then put on the clothes.
Rose passed me my phone so I could call back.
It rang the first time, but no response. I was about to drop the phone but Rose urged me to try again, and then the person picked up in the second ring.
“This is Elara right?” the person over the phone asked
“And whose asking?”
“It's Linda, your neighbor. Your family has been rushed to the hospital. I followed them but I was about to leave, so I decided to call”
“Hospital!..” I said in a shaky voice “please which hospital? What happened? How come?” I asked Linda all at once
“Just come to the well-known specialist hospital that's around the block, I’ll explain everything when you get here, but I’m also confused, they said they caught a deer at the back of your house and the back glass door was broken by it. You know what, just come I'll explain better.” After Linda had said this I hung up and asked Rose if I could borrow their car to the hospital, but she did not let me go on my own let alone drive. So Rose took her brother’s car key then we both hurriedly stepped out, forgetting to inform her brother.
