Chapter 6 Get It Away

I let out a scream before I could hold it back. Ample pressed its full weight on me. My back crashed hard against the concrete floor. Sharp, agonizing pain spread through my body in an instant. I cried out in agony. The dog thought I was just playing. It stayed pinned on top of me, tongue lolling out to lick my face. Its soft fur brushed back and forth across my cheeks. The irritation made me cough repeatedly, and tears blurred my vision. A choking sensation—one I hadn't experienced in years—washed over me all of a sudden. I pushed at the dog in terror, but it refused to move. Vito finally hurried out of the house a moment later. "What's wrong?" A glimmer of hope flared up inside me. "Get it away..." Vito paused, then actually laughed. "Sabrina, it's you! Don't be afraid. Ample's just having fun with you. The power went out at Tiffany's place. It's boiling hot outside, and she has no air conditioning. So I asked her to come over here with Ample for a bit. You don't mind, do you, Sabrina?" Vito kept talking on and on, but I had already lost my voice. I could not tell if it was an allergic reaction or pure fear. My throat swelled up, as if something was stuck inside it. My entire body turned itchy and warm. Heavy suffocation closed in on me once more. Ample never stopped licking me. My spine, which had hit the ground hard, throbbed with pain nonstop. Tears streamed down my face, and I pleaded weakly. "Vito... Get it away..."
