Chapter 3

Jewel's P.O.V.     The days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months and the months turned into years. Before I knew it, I was eighteen. And now I can't stop pacing. That's all I did was pace around my house. I had never left the area around the cabin. Afraid of what might happen. But now I have a problem. The hunger is starting to take over. I have survived off of the forest's fruit. Forrest fruits only gets you so far, especially when you need blood in your diet. No animal ever goes out into the forest ever since the attack of the monsters. The monsters never come around the area I'm at and I don't know why. It is luck though. I don't have to put up with them. I knew if I didn’t get blood into my system soon, I would die. I dress in pure black, skin-tight clothing. It clung to my body, showing off all of my physique. They were my mothers. I miss them every day that I live. I swear, that one day, I will find that boy who killed my parents and I will kill him. If it was the last thing I do.      I use my vampire skills to jump onto the tops of the trees.  The view is beautiful.  The sky is as blue as the ocean. The wind is warm and just a small breeze. The smell always comforted me whenever I needed comforting.      I start to run across the treetops, my feet barely even touching the tops because I was moving so fast. I feel the wind in my hair. My hair. My hair looks like my mothers and fathers mixed. My mother's hair was black and straight. Mine is straight but my hair is blonde. Just like my dads.      I have my eyes like my father when I drink blood.  The eyes are a burgundy color. Well, at least that's what my dad told me. I never looked into my eyes when I drank blood. My normal eyes are like my mothers though. They are green like a high-quality emerald. That’s why my parents named me Jewel.     I finally got to the village that my family used to live in. The new devil lives in his castle. When the previous devil either dies or passes on the crown to the next heir. I heard that the ceremony was supposed to happen after my sixteenth birthday. But I never saw it because I swore to never go back into the town.     The devil and his family live in the castle. The castle is dark and mysterious. It has fog always around it. As you look at it from the front you see flames. Like oil lamps burning. The trees are black, but not dead like most people would think. They look like someone painted them. His castle is not normal. I especially hate the eerie aura it gives off.     I start to walk through the village and a flood of memories hit me. All the memories of me and my parents walking and laughing and living. I feel my eyes start to tear up and I wipe them. I refuse to cry. It’s the past and I must live with it. I can’t change it.      I walk towards our old house. It's been two years since I have been here. It looks like no one has moved in though. I walk up to the house and grab the extra key that was always hidden on top of the doorway. I sigh and unlock the door, stepping in. The house was clean and not a speck of dust was anywhere to be seen. Who is getting into my house and cleaning it? I go and look around, seeing all the pictures and drawings. I would sigh and grab one of the newest ones we had taken. We were out at the town square during a celebration of families. My neighbor Mrs. McSin took the picture for us. I set the picture back down and started walking around until I finally decided to leave.      I start towards the center of the village. There is a festival going on today for some odd reason. The streets are packed so I decided to take the alleyways. I reached the outside of the center where all of the stands of food and gifts were set up. I look at each and one of them until a smell I haven’t smelt forever pops into my noise. Blood! I feel my blood boil and my senses sharpen. All of the people around me start to fade out as my want for blood takes over. I decided to follow the scent. It wasn’t close to me because the scent wasn’t strong. It was faint like a tease for my nose. I decide to pick up my speed as I bump over people. The closer I get the less control I have and the faster I run. No one is in front of me now. I see flames as I run. I ignore them and continue to try to get closer to the smell. I hear people talking as I get to the area where the blood is the strongest. When I stop and look up I notice I have ended up in a kitchen! I decide to quickly hide in a little cubby that was not being used. I see a chef with a pan. He was the one holding the blood, well at least the pan that held the blood. I look at the pan as it shines into the light. The glint of red that I saw made me want it more. The smell of the delicious blood fills every scent of my body. My heart races and my mind start to get foggy. The stupid chef starts to pour the delicious red blood into the sink. I hear doors open and it takes my attention away for just a second until I figure out that the man was the one who had dripped that delicious blood. I hear the man start to yell at the chef that was pouring the blood into the sink. But it didn’t stop me. I had lost all control by now. My body starts to move without me allowing it to. I jump up on his back and sink my fangs into the man that just walked in.     I feel my energy and my body being filled. But the feeling was like no other. I could feel every bone in my body get stronger. My powers were getting stronger the more I drank. I felt like it was the first time I had ever drank blood in my life. I just kept sucking and sucking not caring how the person was feeling, to my surprise he wasn't moving. Once I finally gained full control of my consciousness and body again and I saw the guy's face. His red eyes. So beautiful but then, I see the flame in them. It had to be the devil’s!     I was sent flying towards the wall by magic. His powers were strong. I struggled to get free but the magic he was using had me pinned against the wall. I was useless and unable to run. The power he was using on me was too strong. Out of nowhere, I am falling to the floor. He must have ended the spell because I hit the cold tiled floor in the kitchen. I smell the blood again, but this time it wasn’t someone else's it was mine. It was slowly flowing out of my head and onto the floor. I felt the warmth of my own blood pool around my hair and seep into it. I slowly start to feel myself fading into the darkness of my mind. I see the man I just used as a blood bag walk up to me. He didn’t look happy. He looked as if he was going to kill me. I can't stop him because then I fall into the dark hole I call my mind.
