Chapter 5

Sage's POV~ Present Day

    I hear my alarm go off and I groan and I look at it. It's five in the morning and I could feel the effects of last night hit me. Why did I stay up so late last night? Oh yeah, the damn work that is needed for a festival is so tiring. I slowly crawl my ass out of bed and stretch. I open the curtains in my room letting in some light. It’s a beautiful day. I throw on my robe and walk out to find Elizabeth.

    “Young Sage, Good morning” Elizabeth would say with a slight chuckle. She knew I wasn’t a morning person so why did she have me set an alarm for this early?? “Elizabeth cut to the chase, why did you want me to wake me up so early?” 

    “We have some nobles that you must go out and hunt with. You have had this planned for about three months now. I had you wake up early so you could eat and get ready. Now off to go get your breakfast and get a shower you stink” 

    Elizabeth patted my back and walked off. I don't stink I just showered a day ago. Sorry I couldn’t shower before bed yesterday. I would roll my eyes and head down the hall. 

    I go into the dining room and a plate of food is ready for me. Fruit, coffee, toast, and some bacon. It's small but delicious. I grab my food and sit down, eating quickly.  Once I finish up I head towards my bathroom and then jump into the shower. The warmth of the water running over me, it felt so good. It was so soothing that it was putting me back to sleep. I decided to turn it to cold and damn, that was a rush. Everything was surely awake. I quickly jump out and wrap a towel around my waist. I walk into my closet and grab a hoodie and some pants. I decided that I should probably not wear anything fancy since we are going out into the woods. I throw on my clothes and throw my towel into the hamper that was just outside of my bathroom. I throw on some cologne and head out to where Elizabeth told me the men were.

    All of them were around the garage where all of my vehicles were. We decided to take some of my trucks and headed out. We drove out into a part of the forest that was monster free but animals were there. We spent the next few hours out in the forest. We bull shitted and got a few animals. A few of the guys were being stupid and so we decided to head back before anyone got hurt. 

    It was about noon when we got back. I was full of sweat and I looked like a mess. Elizabeth is surely going to kill me when she finds out that I'm this late and I have to show up in the public soon. 

    I sneak my way into my room and on my bed lay a freshly pressed suit with a note from Elizabeth. I had a feeling you would be late so I decided to get your suit ready. Shower quick and head out to center town. 

    I smile and jump into a quick shower. I quickly got changed into my suit and put on some more cologne. I walked hastily out and went to my next meeting. 

    I head to the center of the village and it's packed. Of course, it's packed. It's a festival of course. A festival for me of course but it's still a festival. 

     Elizabeth made me take some guards to stay safe. Not like anyone would dare f**k with me but it was just a precaution. 

    Wherever I went everyone wanted to talk or shake hands. It was tiring but I knew I had to do it. I had to show the public I'm going to rule them as good if not better then my father did. 

    After many many hours, I was starting to get hungry so I decided to head back to the dining hall. We used this one for giant balls and festivals. It could fit maybe thousands. I don't know honestly. It's just huge. I walk towards the kitchen but I'm stopped by Liam. Damn, the years we haven’t seen each other have done him good. He filled out and he's as big as me. He was pretty built-in high school but he was still the smallest in my friend's group. Maybe he found his mate and that caused him to bulk up. 

    “Liam! Hey bro! I've missed you! How has life been?” I walk over to him and bring him into a hug. Honestly, I didn’t care who saw. I missed him.

    “It's done me good, as you can tell. So how have you been?” 

    “It has been okay, hectic as always. Especially since I've pretty much taken over. I get finalized into the system like the king when I turn 21. That's why this festival is going on.”

   "Oh, that's why it was like this. I questioned why there was a festival. You usually never celebrate your birthday so it was quite odd.” We would both laugh and decide to sit at one of the tables. 

    We spent the next half hour catching up. I missed him so much. I figured out that he hasn’t found his mate and he's traveled half the underworld and he still can't find her. Poor man. Drawn to one woman his whole life. That must suck. 

    “So Sage, are you still as strong as ever?”

    I would just laugh. “I am tougher than before. I heal faster too. What? Do you think I would just become some flabby old man in the two years we were apart!” 

    Liam would smirk. “Well, why don't we test it. Who heals faster.” He would pull out a knife and hand it towards me. 

    “Let's do this, we will time it okay?” I put the knife on my palm and slice it. It immediately starts to burn. That son of a b***h! He got me. The knife,  it's a demon slayer knife. It affects me now because I haven’t taken over the throne and crowned a woman as queen. That's my father's rule to give me his immortality. I may live long but I'm not for sure if living forever is worth having to take someone and crown them. 

    “f**k Liam! You got me! Finally got revenge for the time I used silver on you.”

Both of us just laughed and I would call for someone to bring a container of sorts and some bandages. A chef runs out of the kitchen with an empty pot and bandages. 

    “I'm sorry sir this is all we have free right now.” the chef would say

    “It's fine, I don't mind. Whatever can catch the blood and not allow it to get on the floor. Let it stop bleeding then bandage it.” 

    After some time my hand stopped bleeding and the chef sloppily bandaged my hand. He quickly ran off before I could get after him and tell him not to let anyone drink that blood. Half of the kitchen workers were vampires and the power they could get from my blood could be dangerous. I decide to get up and go after him.

    As soon as I entered the kitchen I started to get after him for leaving before I dismissed him. All he could do was bow and mumble out he was sorry and that it would never happen again.

    In a split second, I felt two fangs stab into my neck. It's a sharp pain. I feel some of my blood start to leave my body. It's not even barely anything. The pace the little vampire was drinking it at was slow. I regenerate fast enough the blood just comes back as soon as the vampire drinks it. 

    I reach over and grab the person, sending them flying to the wall with a bit of my powers. As I turn and look at the creature I find out it's a girl. A beautiful, tiny girl. She looked like she was maybe five foot, five one. Her hair was a beautiful golden shade. Her skin was pale and her body was filled out.

    I let her drop to the floor and I hear a loud thud. I walk over to her and I see her head bleeding. Meh, honestly she deserved it. I walk up to her and she looks up at me. Her beautiful green eyes shine when I look at her. Her face seems oddly familiar. But before I can ask her anything she blacks out. Just my f*****g luck. This is going to suck to take care of. Especially since I have dinner to make tonight.
