Who can I trust?

560 Words
Ana was peeking around the tree at the large man that was crouched only feet away, her emerald green hues looked him over as he spoke to her. "Mommy told me to never trust strangers, That sometimes they can be mean and do bad things. What if mommy comes looking for me?" She would say, her pure innocence seeping through the cracks of her now broken life. The male before her looked distraught. She could hear faint sounds of sirens in the distance, Not just one, But a few of them, going off all at once.  "Some strangers can be nasty-" the man began. "But some of them are also very nice, and they want to help little girls like you." He would say reaching out a large manly hand towards her. Ana looked from his face to his hands. His hands looked warm and safe, inviting. She then looked to his face, thinking about what he said to her. She felt..Safe with him. She didn't feel scared like she did with the two men who bound her hands. She needed an adult, she knew she wouldn't be able to look after herself. Ana slowly stood up on shaky legs and painfully sore feet. "That's it." He would say motioning her to come over to him. When he noticed her hands bound in front of her the look of pure anger flashed crossed his face. "Careful now, Don't trip and fall." He cooed softly. As Ana's sore feet crunched along the dead leaves and twigs on the ground, she would let out small gasps of pain. Once she reached Sam she looked up at him, Her big green eyes looked pleading. Please don't hurt me, please don't betray my trust. The look on her face made hams heart finally crumble. This innocent child just had her parents murdered by vampires, she ran for her life only to be tied up and then terrified by giant glorified wolves. Her life now rested in the hands of a complete stranger. He gave her a reassuring smile despite the pain he felt for her and reached down to untie her hands. The rope had left fresh pink burns around her clear, pale wrists. "When we get back to my home, I'll put some cream on these to help them heal. Okay?"  Ana nodded. Sam swiftly lifted the little girl in her arms. One hand behind her back the other under her legs. He then began to walk deeper into the forest. Silently at first as he pondered on his thoughts, what to say. Ana yawned and place her head on sam's shoulder. She was exhausted. The adrenaline and the exercise she had from the day was wearing her down to the bone. It was now dusk, almost completely dark outside. Ana had they weird prickling feeling all over her skin and peaked over sam's shoulder. She gasped at the sight she saw. Walking behind them almost silently was about 8 large wolves. Their pelts all different colours. Their eyes would glow in the darkness of the foliage.  Sam chuckled gently. "Don't worry little one. They won't hurt you. Their guardians of the forest. They protect us from the horrible men who tried to hurt you." he would say. They were walking for what felt like hours, Ana found sams lack of speech rather..Boring and she had fallen asleep earlier on in the trek.
