I did not go to the hospital at the time prearranged with Dr. Moore. Instead, I showed up at a nearby café.
"Hey, Ivy, life after marriage seems to be treating you really well. You haven't aged a bit at all."
A man wearing a baseball cap sitting across from me stirred the coffee in his hand.
"Cut the crap. Where's the stuff I asked you to look into?"
The man pouted in dissatisfaction, pulled a stack of documents out of his bag, and placed them on the table.
"You're basically engaged, for crying out loud. Why are you still such a firecracker?"
I didn't waste any more words on him. I grabbed the documents, turned around, and left.
"You know the rules. I don't need to remind you again, right? The money has already been transferred to your account."
After leaving the café, I flagged down a taxi right outside.
“Take me to Riverside Premier Hospital.”
On the way to the hospital, I opened the documents the man at the café had given me.
I didn't snap out of my rage until I felt the searing pain of my nails digging into the palm of my hand.
Sebastian had been married this whole time!
The date they received their marriage license was exactly the day he and I met.
And his wife is none other than the prized daughter of his company's chairman, the dream girl of every gold-digging pretty boy in the capital.
Evelyn Ashford!
It turns out this has all been a scam from start to finish!
"Miss, we're here."
The taxi finally stopped at a place that looked like a manor.
Looking at the luxury cars coming and going around me, if it weren't for the sign-up ahead, I would have thought I'd arrived at a palace.
After getting out of the car, I disposed of the documents and called Dr. Moore.
"Dr. Moore, I'm so sorry. This place is huge. I've been wandering around for ages and can't find my way. Could I trouble you to come out and pick me up?"
"Sure, stay right where you are. I'll be out immediately."
After hanging up, I didn't stay put as Dr. Moore had told me to over the phone. Instead, I took out my phone and started taking photos everywhere.
People who come to a private hospital like this are either rich or powerful.
Since Sebastian arranged for me to come here for a physical exam, he probably wasn't worried that I'd get suspicious.
After all, in just a few days, I'll be a dead woman.
Right now, I'm only curious about one thing.
'What exactly is he after, having gone to such lengths to deceive me all these years?'
While my professional judgment has let me piece together a few clues, I don't have any solid evidence at all.
