"Hey, where did you come from, hillbilly? What are you doing there?"
When I walked up to the entrance of a lavish, palatial building, a patrolling security guard stopped me.
"Boss, sorry. I have an appointment with the doctor, but this place is so big that I got lost by accident."
The guard looked me up and down, his eyes full of disdain.
"Hurry up and leave. This isn't some place scrubs like you can just wander into off the street. The hospital is in Zone B."
I put on a flattering smile and blinked.
"Hey, boss, why is this place different from the others? Who lives inside?" As I spoke, I pulled a few hundred dollars out of my pocket and stuffed it into the guard's pocket.
"Ahem..." The guard adjusted his pocket discreetly and pulled me aside.
"The owner here's surname is Ashford. Got it?"
"Ashford? Could that be Bernardo Ashford, the richest man in this city?" I asked.
"Well..." The guard pointed at the banknotes in my hand, deliberately dragging out his response.
I took the hint and stuffed the rest of the money into his hand as well.
"It's not Mr. Bernardo Ashford. It's his daughter, Evelyn."
"Huh? Why would Mr. Ashford's daughter be living in the hospital?"
The guard tilted his chin up, looking very pleased with himself.
"You've come to the right person to ask. This Evelyn, she—"
"Oh! Ivy, what are you doing here? I've been looking for you for ages."
Just as I was about to get the full story, Dr. Moore suddenly spoke up right behind me.
I turned around awkwardly, putting on an apologetic expression.
"Sorry, Dr. Moore. I'd never seen such a big estate before, so I wanted to look around. I didn't expect to end up here."
Before Dr. Moore could say anything, I quickly grabbed his arm and started walking back.
"Oh, it's getting late. Let's hurry up and do the check-up."
To avoid tipping them off ahead of time, I had to keep up the disguise for now.
Fortunately, I acted well enough along the way that Dr. Moore didn't suspect anything. He only warned me strictly not to go wandering off on my own next time.
I nodded obediently in agreement.
After winding through a few turns, he led me to a room that looked like an operating theater.
"Ivy, roll up your sleeves. I'll take a blood sample first."
I followed his instructions, taking off my coat to expose my pale, milky-white forearm.
Just then, I suddenly let out a very loud burp.
Dr. Moore froze right then and there.
"You! Who told you to eat? Didn't Sebastian tell you, you can't eat before a blood draws?"
I looked at him with a confused, blank expression. "No, I thought this was just a physical examination. I had no idea I needed to get blood work done at all."
Dr. Moore frowned immediately. "You've been drinking?! How could you drink? Who gave you permission to drink?!"
I kept up the act of being completely in the dark. "Huh? Dr. Moore, do I have some kind of illness? Why can't I drink?"
Realizing he had probably overreacted just now, Dr. Moore calmed himself down.
"Well... Ivy, you and Sebastian are planning to have a baby, right? Drinking is bad for your health either way."
I pretended to be shy, turning my head to the side.
"Ugh, my husband is so silly, telling strangers all our private business. That's so embarrassing."
Seeing this, Dr. Moore did not press the matter further, though he looked rather dejected.
"Come back tomorrow. Remember, don't eat anything, and don't drink alcohol."
I sat up from the bed right away and straightened my clothes.
"Okay, Dr. Moore. I'm so sorry about this. I'll come back tomorrow then."
With that, I bowed to Dr. Moore, turned around, then left quickly.
Little did Dr. Moore know that during our conversation just now, I had already planted a bug under his exam bed.
The moment I stepped out of the hospital, I couldn't wait to put on my headphones.
Sure enough, not long after I left, Dr. Moore called Sebastian.
"Sebastian, what's the matter with you? Ivy drank alcohol today, so we can't extract her blood sample. Have you lost your mind? You can't even get this one tiny thing right?
"Listen up, we only have a week left. I must have her on the operating table by then! ”
