Chapter 3

245 Words
Sienna's POV: The day after Xavier's birthday was my wedding anniversary with Lance. In previous years, on this day, Lance and I would always find a way to send Xavier away. Then we would spend a day alone together, just the two of us. This year, I sent Xavier to the old family home as usual. I asked Lance's mother to look after him for the day. After that, I personally prepared a candlelight dinner and sat at the dining table, waiting for Lance to come home. I reheated the food three times. The candles were lit and went out, then after they went out, I lit them again. I held my phone and waited until eleven o'clock at night. Only then did Lance send me a message. Lance: Honey, I'm working overtime at the company. I won't be coming home tonight. I stared at the message and froze for a long time. I could not quite describe what I felt. I was a little disappointed, but at the same time, it felt as if I had suddenly let go of something. Only at that moment, I suddenly regretted sending Xavier away. If he had been home, at least there would have been a child running around in front of me. As long as he was there, this home would not have seemed so empty. Not like now, with only me in the whole house, and that table of food that had long gone cold.
