I'm Leaving

1981 Words
Jasmine POV:- I woke up when I felt a hand gently stroking my hairs, I knew whom it belonged to so i smiled to myself. Slowly opening my eyes , I looked at the person that I love the most in this world. Seeing her smiling face first thing in the morning makes my day.  Leaning towards me, she planted a soft kiss on my forehead. "Morning sweetie" says my mother flashing me a smile as bright as the sun peeking through my bedroom window. "Good morning Maa", I said while getting up from my bed. " Go and get freshen up and come downstairs, breakfast will be ready in half-hour", saying this she started leaving the room. "Okay", I responded while grabbing my mobile from the night stand and going through my kpop playlist to start my morning exercise. I love listening to my favorite songs while doing exercise. I choose to play " Energetic " by "Wanna One" and started with stretching. ..................................................... After doing exercise, I had a quick shower and changed into a pair of light blue jeans, a black fitted t-shirt  and a pair of black canvas shoes. Brushing my long hairs, I tie them up in a high pony and apply a clear coat of lip balm on my lips. Yeah, that's the only piece of makeup i use, i like to stay natural but that doesn't mean that I don't own any makeup, i just don't use them on a daily basis. Leaving my room i head downstairs to the kitchen while checking my mobile for any messages and I saw that I've got a message from my best friend Shelley. Clicking it, i saw her text that states.... 'Shelley :- Hey Jazz, I'm free from work today. Wanna come over and go shopping with me ?' 'Me :- Thank God you texted me, i was dying because of boredom for staying at home for so long. I was actually thinking about coming over today, we haven't seen each other for  a month now. I've missed you so much.' After sending her my reply, I was putting my mobile in my jeans pocket when it beeped, indicating that I've got a message. It was Shelley again. 'Shelley:- Aww, baby I've missed you too. Come quickly and we'll spend the whole day together. Love yea.' 'Me:- Okay , I'll be there after having breakfast. Love you too.', i texted back.   Entering the kitchen, i was hit by the delicious aroma of *aloo parantha and my tummy growled instantly, which made my mother laugh. She placed a plate with aloo parantha and some home made pickles on it and i started eating my breakfast happily. Just then my father entered the kitchen and made himself comfortable on the head of the house seat. " Morning Paa", I said with my mouth stuffed with food. " Morning ", said my dad without looking up from the newspaper which he was reading with so much concentration, like it was some important syllabus which will be questioned in his exam, geez. After finishing reading it, he filed his plate too and started eating. By then I was full and placed my plate in the dishwasher.  " Maa, I'm going to Shelley's place and I'll spend the rest of day with her.", I informed her. "Okay, sweetie. Tell her I said 'hi' and be safe while driving. Call me when you get there. Okay?", she said . " Okay Maa, I'll see you guys in the evening. Bye ." I said. As I was about to leave the kitchen my father called my name... "Wait jasmine" I turned to look at him and he had a serious expression on his face. I knew from his face that this conversation will not end up well. "Yes Paa ?" I asked a bit scared to know what was coming. "Sit down, I need to talk to you." He said, while gesturing me to sit next to him. I walked towards that chair and got settled on it. "Could you tell me how long its been since Shelley started as an intern in that hospital ?", he asked me while looking into his phone. Shelley came from India for her studies when I was in high school and since then, we've been best friends. We've been to the same college for our medical degree but I never wanted to study medical. It was just because of my father, who happen to be a cardiologist. He forced me to study medical science so that I can become a doctor just like him. But I never wanted to be one, I wanted to be a painter. I loved painting, it makes me feel good, gives me peace . After completing our degree, Shelley joined a hospital for animals as an intern ,while I stopped this medical bullshit. I can't take this anymore , I want to be what I want in my life and no ones gonna stop me doing that. " I asked you a question, Jasmine! " my father's voice made me to come back to earth. "Its been a month and a half, Paa", I said while looking down at my hands in my lap.  I'm gonna tell him my decision today but I was afraid of him. Don't get me wrong, my father loved me as much as I do, but he can be pretty scary when things don't work the way he want. " And when are you going to start yours ?", he asked , still not looking up from his phone. "I don't want to....." , I trialled off. "You don't want to, what ?" "Dad, you know that I studied medical just because you forced me. I never wanted to be a doctor and I still don't want to be one. I've said before and I'm repeating it, I want to be a painter.......it's my Passion dad." , I said . "Jasmine, darling we've talked about this before, you can't be a painter all time and be financially strong in your life.", he said while massaging his temple. "I'll do some part-time job in my free time dad, I know I can't do painting all day long.", I said that just to convince them but honestly speaking, I can shut myself in my room and paint for as much time as I want. "You can make paintings even when you're working as an doctor, sweetie.", my mother said while sitting beside me. "Mom, you know me better than anyone. I can't do those things properly in which I lack interest. I'll be a terrible doctor mom, I don't want to risk the life of others,pl......", I was cut off by my father. "Enough of this nonsense, I've told you my decision before and I'm not gonna change it. And you have to listen to it.", my father said while looking at me with anger filled eyes. " I'm sorry dad, but it's not gonna happen. I've made my mind and you have to accept it .", shaking my head, I said as calmly as possible. "This is my HOUSE and I make decisions for the people who live here. And your not any exception.", he said while raising his voice. " Fine." , I said while getting up from my seat. "I'm leaving then.", I said while looking him in the eyes. " What do you mean ?", asked my father, looking confused. "If I can't make decision for my own life in this house, then I don't want to live here anymore. I'm an adult and I can take care of myself. From now on I'm gonna live my life on my own and the way I want.", i said while leaving them in the kitchen and heading towards my room, I'm done with them. ..................................................... It took me an hour for packing all my stuff which I wanted to take with me. Zipping my suit case, I headed towards the door but I stopped and turned around sparring one last glance to my room.  So many memories were filled in this room, I let my eyes roam around the room until they settled on the photo frame that was resting on my bedside table. It was a family photo which was taken on my 5th birthday. Me standing in the front wearing a white frock , grinning ear to ear while my father was standing behind me with his right hand on my right shoulder and his left arm wrapped around my mother's waist who was carrying my brother,Vishavdeep, in her arms. We looked so happy back then. It's not like we were not having a happy life now, my parents were financial strong and they gave us everything that we asked them but the only thing that bothers me is my father controlling our life.  Looking at the photo, I got a bit emotional and a few tears dropped from my eyes. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath and dried my cheeks by the back of my hand. After putting the photo frame in my suit case, I came downstairs with my luggage.  My parents were sitting in the living room with my brother, talking about the argument I had with my dad before. When I made my way towards them, my mother looked at me then at my luggage in my hands and shoot up from her seat. In a second she was standing in front of me, looking a bit shocked. "Sweetie, where are you going ?", she asked while looking me in the eyes.  " I told you, I'm leaving. I can't stay here anymore.", I said firmly. "Stop being ridiculous, Jasmine. You're not going anywhere.", said my brother while standing from his seat. " I've made my mind, Vish. And nobody gonna change it.", I said to my brother.  He was staring at me, reading my eyes for a few seconds. He signed, knowing that I'm not gonna listen to anyone. My mother was still staring at me but now with tear filled eyes, she has seen the determination in my eyes. "Sweetie, please don't do this....", she started crying, I grabbed her cheeks in my hands and kissed her forehead. " Don't cry Maa. I'll be fine, I'm gonna live with Shelley from now on, you don't have to worry about me. I'm an adult now, not a three year old.", I said while hugging her tight. She didn't said a word after that but was sobbing in my arms. Pulling away from her, I headed towards my brother and gave him a hug too. "Please take care of them for me, Vish.", I said while parting away from him. He just nodded in response. I glanced to my right, where my father was sitting silently with his anger filled eyes, looking at everything that was happening. I headed towards the front door and opened it. " I know you will comeback when you'll realize that I was right.", my father's voice stopped me in my track. "I'll show you that my decision was right.", I said without looking back and headed outside. I have my own car which was gifted by my father when turned 18 but i was not in the mood to drive, so I called a cab and gave him my Best friend's address. I left my home to live my life the way I want and I'll comeback here only when I'll show them that I was successful in pursuing my passion. .......................................................................................... *Aloo Parantha:- It is a bread dish originating from the Indian subcontinent.
