Chapter Four
Over the next few months, Harriet had matches with Laura and Romy on a regular basis. They were the two players who were closest to Harriet in competence, but even then, the gap between them was significant. But they all enjoyed their games. But Laura and Harriet began to socialise together. It just came about naturally. Sometimes they would chat after tennis at other times they would meet up for a drink in an evening in a bar or at each other’s homes. And they began to get to know each other and become friends.
One evening they were relaxing together at Laura’s drinking wine. They were both sat on the sofa together when Harriet picked up a family photograph of Laura, Philip and their children.
“Tell me about Philip,” Laura. The words struck Laura like a pleasant melody to
